When To Ride the Big One ?!?!

hello i am going for school on tuesday, we are scheduled to arrive at 10 and leave at 7:30, i want to maximize my time and ride as much as possible, but am most concerned at getting MF with shortest possible wait. when would be the best time to ride? thanks in advance (keep in mind open 10-8 with gates open at 9)

I would say start with MF and then work your way around the park going toward the back of the park. this way you will have the shortest lines.

Be careful about Millennium Force. When I went on May 20th it broke down a whole lot so it was more than a 4 hour wait. I got out of line after the first 20 minutes because in that time the train came around 3 times.

It didn't help that May 20th the crowds ranged from very heavy to capacity. I've never seen so many people on Po!nt during a day in May...caught me completely flat footed. Even when the trains were dispatching at 1:45 minute intervals, the line was STILL a sustained 4 hours long. It was like watching a preview of what it'll be like July and August.

It wasn't that bad on May 20th. I've seen a LOT worse, anyone who's been there Memorial Day weekend knows what I mean. BTW, I posted a trip report for the 19th and 20th in the MF Forum, because it's mostly going on about MF. *** This post was edited by Clarkbar on 5/21/2000. ***

I dunno...I've never been on Point during Memorial Day, or a weekend in August, but I've been there several times during weekdays July-August. The average wait times I saw were:

Raptor: 45 min-1 hour
Magnum: 30-45 min
Gemini: walkon-15 min (four trains)
Mean Squeak: walkon-30 minutes peak
Mantis: 30-45 minutes

In comparison, May 20th, lines for Raptor topped 2 hours almost the entire day. Magnum topped 90 minutes with 3 trains running and soared toward 2 hours with 2 trains running. Mantis lines were stretched past the Midway and ran close to 2 hours at peak. CP&LE was running two trains and both were packed near capacity throughout the day. Heck, I waited 50 minutes for Blue Streak, and IT'S queue was lined up past it's entrance. And we already know about MF's endless line.

Admittedly, the lines started to decline in the evening as is the norm, but they remained very high...I left at 9:30, but Raptor never dropped below 1 hour, Magnum was still running a 1-hour two-train queue, CP&LE was down to one train, but it was STILL packed. And MF was running a 3+ hour queue. In comparison I waited only 60 minutes for it on Wednesday night.

I can't see how it can get TOO much worse then that.

Can't see how it can get much worse ArchTeryx? if you visit on a Saturday in July (which I refuse to do), you will see it get much worse. I was there on Saturday May 20th., and the lines were incredible. However my wait times differed from yours slightly.
Raptor (front seat) after gates open 45 min.
Magnum (3 trains) 30 min.
Gemini 10 min.
MF (after its 1:20? second opening) 2hrs. 25 min.
Power Tower (turbo drop) 1 hr.
Blue Streak 20 min.
Mine Ride 20 min.
Disaster Transport 30 min.

And before anyone starts ragging on me for my ride choices, I rode MF, Raptor, Magnum, Gemini, Mean Streak, Mantis and Iron Dragon on opening day and it was my intention on May 20th. to ride my favorites as well as some other rides that I didn't get a chance to ride on May 13th.
