Waterspout

Anyone at the park yesterday(8-15) get to see the waterspout around 1? I was on Magnum when I noticed people yelling, screaming and pointing as we headed up the lift. Looking stright out into the lake you could clearly see a large waterspout about a mile or so from the point. After I got off, I got my camera and ran for the beach. But, by the time I got out there all that was left was a park official standing on the beach looking where it once was. So if anyone was there and watch the whole thing, do you know how long it was out there for? *** Edited 8/16/2004 5:51:55 PM UTC by Mathyou***

Mathyou, I'm not sure how long it was out there, but it was quite a sight to see. We managed to get a couple really cool pictures, in and around cork screw, but by the time we had made it to the beach it was gone.

Wow, I'm surprised that you could see it from corkscrew. Glad to hear that you were able to snag a few pictures too, unlike me.

Unfortunately I missed it, was at the park but was too busy getting hit with rain on Raptor. Sounds like it was quite a site to see!

I was there yesterday, but didn't arrive until 6. It would have been pretty cool to see a waterspout though.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

I was at the park yesterday and heard everyone talking about it. By the time I got to a position where I could see the lake, it was gone though :(

I got some video from the Gemini parking lot. With any luck I'll be able to capture some of that footage tonight.

Yeah, I heard, on the weather on the news, that waterspouts were spotted in Lake Erie, and the Meteorologist pointed around the Sandusky area, so immediatly I thought of Cedar Point. I would've loved to see that, in person.

rathofdoom, think of a tornado, only on water.

Rideman, I'd love to see that video. Did the waterspout move any, or was it just stationary? From Magnum, it didn't look like it was going anywhere. But then again, I only got to see it for a few seconds.

Mathyou, I was at the park yesterday too and saw it. Was walking thru kiddy kingdom towards WT when it saw it. Watched it the whole time in line for WT. It didn't seem to be moving. From where I was in line it looked like a second one was starting to form but never hit the water.

That would have been nuts had the second one made it to the water. Man, I wish I had my camera out for that!

Today was the first I heard of it, so when I read about it I thought it may have hit Cedar Point. Would it do any damage if it would hit Cedar Point?

That was a cold air funnel. If it made it onshore, it would quickly dissipate.

Thanks to a couple of PointBuzzers, we have pictures.

If it hit Cedar Point, then it wouldn't be a waterspout, it'd be a full-fledged tornado. However, the Point doesn't exactly have a lot of time to prepare for a tornado if it's a mile away, so it might do some significant damage.

Excuse me asking, but what are waterspouts? I've heard so many definitions but they're all differnet.
