Was Millennium Force ever really the fastest or tallest coaster in the world? Or was this simply Cedar Point's original contention that roller coasters had to be complete circuits?

I have a love-hate relationship with Intamin.
I love their rides, I hate their policies. I guess I better start eating at Subway.

Yes, Superman did, however cedar point considers a "coaster" (with the exception of WT) as a complete circuit, thus making MF the fastest (complete circuit) coaster at the time.

I really don't see why you would consider S:TE a coaster. If you considered that a coaster, then why not consider every 1st generation Intamin free fall a coaster? It's the same thing just in backwards order, you start at the bottom instead of the top of Superman. Anyway, regarding MF, it was when it opened the tallest and fastest in the world, and until TTD was opened it was the tallest and fastest in the country.

MillForce810, I was thinking the exact same thing. Demon Drop would be considered a coaster if S:TE is a coaster as well.

Like I said before, if you're gonna consider S:TE a coaster, consider all Intamin freefalls one too. In fact now that I think about it, the freefalls more resemble a coaster than Superman does. It goes out of the station, goes up, comes down, goes backwards back into the station, making if a full-curcuit ride. Another reason why I don't consider Superman a ride is because shuttle coasters usually go through the station twice or more. I.E.-Wicked Twister is a shuttle coaster. All Boomerangs-shuttle coasters. Montezooma's Revenge-shuttle coaster. And a third reason I don't consider Superman a roller coaster is because all it does is go up, and come back, and it only does it once. Pretty much all it is is a roll back simulator. If I wanted a roll-back I'd ride TTD in the early morning, not travel all the way out to California for a ride that takes me up and drops me back, and probably won't be open anyway ;)

Damien - the entire point of that link, as I got it, is sometimes coasters roll back, so therefore S:TE is a coaster. I've heard considerably better arguments than that.

bleh- I think we got the better end of the deal...Steel Dragon 2000 cost I believe over $52 million- Mille cost half that and ended up better anyway. This gave CP an extra $25 million to spend on coasters like wicked twister and Top Thrill Dragster. Therefore I am more grateful for the way it turned out. :-)

So you've been on Steel Dragon? If not, your opinion is fairly meaningless.
SD cost more because it's built to withstand earthquakes.

View the ratings on coasterbuzz.com and see that the steel dragon has a ride again rating of around 7.5 while MF has a rating of around >9.5 which by all means shows that MF seems to be a better ride. I simply meant that I am happy with CP's investments. Without those investments, pointbuzz.com wouldn't be as prominment as it is.

Oh yeah, the four people who rated the ride on CB obviously makes for a scientific survey.

I agree coaster monkey, that is a weak argument. I'm not really sure what you would call it. It is as much a free fall ride as it is a coaster.

Just because CP only spent 25 mil on MF doesn't mean they had another 25 million lying around to spend on WT and TTD. As far as I know (which really isn't far) all of CP's coaster selections are carefully crafted in advance.
S:TE again? Can't we all just agree that it's a SHUTTLE COASTER? For pete's sake...:)

I'm sure with the amount of money they spent on Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster, they probably still have enough revenue of money where they can build a really good coaster for next year. I would say a floorless sounds good.

The argument that S:TE is not a coaster, but WT is, simply because WT passes through the station more than once is totally ridiculous. How about this for why S:TE is a coaster, but Demon Drop isn't: S:TE is actually built as a roller coaster. The trains never switch tracks, like first generation drop rides do. If you have ever been on S:TE, you would most likely agree it's a roller coaster. It didn't feel much different from Speed: The Ride at the Sahara Hotel. I guess Speed isn't a coaster, either, because it doesn't pass through the station more than once...
