Best way around Chicago

My friends and I are driving from Minneapolis to Cedar Point. We have decided to cut the driving time in half, and stop at SFGA north of Chicago for a day.

I'm hoping someone could tell me an easy route from Gurnee,(I94) to I80. We don't want to go through Chic. if we don't have to. Please Help.

Chicago traffic on I-94 is not that bad late at night. You might want to consider completing the Chicago portion of the drive the evening you visit SFGAm, and spend the night somewhere in Indiana. Plus the Chicago skyline at night is simply gorgeous.

Otherwise, if you want to drive during the day, you could always take I-294 around the city. I-294 meets I-94 a little south of Gurnee and connects right back into I-80/I-94 on the south side of Chicago. If you take I-294, have a lot of spare change with you as it is a portions toll road.

Best of luck with your trip, I hope you enjoy both parks. Just remember, traffic within a 45 mile radius of Chicago during daylight hours is always going to be heavy, be patient.

Thanks for the info. We will be leaving Gurnee Sunday morning between 7 & 8 AM. Hopefully I-94 won't be too busy. It would be fun to see Chicago, but if things look a little heavy we can take I-294.

I am from the cities as well. If you haven't already, you should get a Valleyfair! season pass now for 70 bucks so you can use it at CP. We did that last year. Got to go to CP for 5 days for 60 bucks. It was pretty sweet. Well hope ya have fun. Maybe I'll see ya there in the ol' Breakwater Cafe?
