Old and converted buildings.

I noticed part of one of the old buildings near the administrative offices had an old brick back. It also had what looked like leftover exterior work that did match anything around it. Combined with Jeff mentioning the possible doom of the catering building/Grand Pavilion in years to come, I was wondering what other old buildings are still lingering about the park.

There is the last old win (Bon Air wing?) of the old Hotel Breakers, along with the original rotunda building. I think Cedars Hotel is now employee housing. Some of the formally independent concession stands are still standing as part of the current system. The Pagoda is still there and in use. What else is there out there?

There's the coast guard station in the boneyard. Not sure when that came up.

The Coliseum, the games building along the main midway. I don't think that they would actually go ahead and tear the Convention Center. It's the oldest building at Cedar Point. It was built in 1888.

The Hotel Breakers was recommended for DEdesignation (or removal) as a National Historic Landmark in 1998. Quoting from the web page:
"* Hotel Breakers, Sandusky, Ohio. The Breakers was a large resort hotel designed during the Victorian-Edwardian era. Recent changes to the property demolished two historic wings and extensively changed the character of the remaining sections. (Owned privately)"

Note that this recommendation was made BEFORE the 1999 additions to the Breakers.

San Francisco Earthquake (now Snoopy boutique), Aquarium building, Pirate Ride, And several old food stands in the boneyard. They look like tool sheds. Very creepy. Old pumps from Shot the Rapids are still in use on White Water Landing. The old Sky Ride building is still next to Mine Ride and that Water Tower has been there a long time.

Where is the boneyard?

I worked at CP for 5 summers while going to school. Most of those summers i lived in the Cedars hotel and what a dump!! Cedars has been employee housing for many, many years now and when i worked at CP from 90-94, the place was really falling apart and numerous rumors were passing then about CP demolishing the place for parking and the rumor of expanding a midway! While there you can see and i listened to old stories of Cedars Hotel being a very lavish hotel. I believe, maybe that is why CP is taking so long to demolish the place and not putting any money into it!!

How appalling would it be to lose the Grand Pavilion? It's currently getting little usage, I know, but when you gaze upon the structure, you are definately transported back to the late 1800's. Is that worth nothing? It is an architectural gem! This sort of thing can't be duplicated, and should be revered.

Thinking of losing the Grand Pavilion fills my gut with that same nauseating feeling when I realized that CP was going to nuke the old T.M.Harton carousel building that the Midway Carousel occupied pre-Raptor. Folks, once something precious like that disappears, it seems to indicate a rather dangerous corporate mentality that disregards what made CP great in the first place -it's long standing history!

And now, I step down from my soap box...

Yes, but new history is created all the time...Personaly I wouldn't like to see it fall to the wrecking ball, but CP moves on and new chapters in CPs history will be writen.

Thank you , I was just writing to that affect. History is not something that has to physcially exist inorder to call it so. History can simply be memories that live on in the minds of those who experienced it. Cedar Point is creating a landscape to form the basis for new memories, a new history that will be forever cherished by yet another generation of eager park guests. This relates to even the seemingly most insignificant things. Without the lonely exit gates near Soak City, the single-most romantic moment in my entire life may have never occurred. (Love to ya Casey ;) ) This said, people need to comfortably interact with their environments; productive environments must be as natural to the current culture as possible and not be contrived. What does this mean? You will have a better time and hopefully take home some great memories that never fade away.

Without change, we as a society become stagnant and digress.

Did anyone notice the white spray paint on the windows of the Cedars Hotel? I don't believe I noticed that last year.

Nick. G, the bone yard is between Mean Streak and Camper Village. If you ride the train from the Mean Streak station, you can see it through a chain linked fence on the left.
