Jungle George Playland?

I was wondering what the Jungle George playground thing was like. It was before my time so I don't have a clue of what it was like. "Sorry if I didn't get it's name correct."

It was Jungle Larry's Jungle Safari. It was located where Power Tower is today. I have very little memories of it because I was like 7 when I went on it.

It sounds familiar did they actually have animals cuz i remember going to a place where they had a tiger or something like that.

Yeah, they had jungle animals, hence the name "Jungle safari".

They had many animals, and some pretty nice shows with the tigers and chimps. The actual name most recently was Jungle Larry's African Safari, but when the attraction first opened it was called Jungle Larry's Safari Island. That's because, in the days before Corkscrew, that area was part of the lagoons. You crossed over a floating bridge to get to Safari Island. The island itself was covered with vegetation and made you really believe you were in a jungle, it felt very secluded. It was also an extra cost attraction back in the 60’s and early 70’s.

Oh, how I miss visiting Jungle Larry's during feeding time!!

I barely remember it, I was like young. If I recall right, they guy that ran it had the act down in FL durring the winter and at CP durring the summer, and he didnt want to keep transporting the animals back and forth, so he decided to keep the act in FL. (if this is wrong, please correct)

Gosh, here I go showing my age...but I recall back in the 60's that Jungle Larry was a side kick on a weekday noon time show in Cleveland. The program involved cartoons, and Jungle Larry would come on with an animal or two, I don't remember if his appearances were daily or once in a while. He had some rare animals on display at CP and it was fun to visit when back in town.

Hey that's right! I almost forgot about it. The show was called Captain Penny, and it was on channel 5 I think.

Jungle Larry (aka Larry Tetzlaff) was good buddies with Captain Penny (aka Ron Penfound), and it was indeed on WEWS TV5 in Cleveland. He was a regular visitor on the show, and brought many animals, birds and snakes. Sort of like Jungle Jack Hanna from the Columbus Zoo does nowadays. In the winter, they packed up and moved the animals to their location in Naples Florida. BTW - Jungle Larry's wife was Safari Jane.

A bit off topic - Another of the Captain's favorite guests was Mr. Jingaling. He was the Keeper of the Keys to Santa's Northpole Workshop.

Tim, your NOT that old... I still have one of the keys from Mr. Jing-a-ling!! Hey, when we were kids growing up from September to December we talked about what we wanted for Christmas. Between January and May we talked about Cedar Point!!!

While it's true that Jungle Larry's wife was known as "Safari Jane", her real name is Nancy. I guess "Safari Jane" sounds more jungle-ish than "Safari Nancy".
As I recall, at least in the later years, the sign-on of Captain Penny showed the Captain on varous rides at Cedar Point. I recall him on Trabant for sure. I think he may have also been on the Space Spiral, Turnpike cars and the CP&LERR, but I'm not sure about these.
I remember walking over the floating bridge to Safari Island. It was supported by empty 55 gallon drums. The bridge was hinged so that it could go up and down according to the foot traffic. Teenagers used to jump up and down on it to scare everyone. Very narrow bridge and those killer carp were lurking at the sides.
Pete-didn't realize that there was an extra charge, but not suprised. Thrilling entertainment.
The last I knew, Jungle Larry's Florida outfit still operates in Naples. Don't forget the Tiglons!

Tim, you and me both talked about the same things at the same time. CP was really something to look forward to after the Christmas season was over with. Now to get totally off topic (sorry Jeff), but do you remember the big (BIG!!!) christmas tree in the Sterling Linder store? Between Mr. Jingaling at Halle's and the Sterling Linder tree, a kid was in Christmas paradise in Cleveland.

Opps! That will teach me to read every post more carefully. Carousel Man, I just noticed you mentioned the Serling-Linder tree after I posted! Yeah, we're fossils, at least until CP opens. Then we'll feel like kids again!

I remember that bridge! It always scared me as a kid! I definitely remember the Tiglons. That gave Cedar Point some worldwide attention. Overall, Jungle Larry was a great asset to CP. It was also a good place to hide out from the heat on a sunny afternoon!
