Anyone wear contacts?

Howdy all,

My wife is a new wearer of contact lenses. Her doctor advised against wearing them to CP since they can dry out and scratch the cornea. So of course I am extremely worried about Dragster and if she should wear them or not.

I assume everyone not wearing glasses doesn't have perfect vision so I thought I would ask for experiences/opinions of what you wear on the rides. I figure if she takes drops with her and uses them after each ride, they shouldn't dry out.

I am a new wearer of Focus Night and Day contacts. You are allowed to wear them at night, so there should be no problem with them drying out on the rides. It might depend on what kind of contacts your wife wears.

It depends on type of contacts (water content, etc.) and the 'dryness' of the wearer's eye. I've worn various types of contacts for nearly two decades and get away with just about anything, but some people do have sensitive eyes. Usually fast rides make my eyes water, so I used to be more concerned with them getting flushed out than drying out. But now in the days of disposables, I just carry an extra (very seldom needed) pair.

It's all about experimentation and keeping in mind the possibilities (I know you know how to use your head :) ). I'm sure a good percentage of CP's riders are contact wearers without ill effects. Your wife should be fine. If things get uncomfortable, just have a backup ready.

Thanks for the info everyone. She wears Accuvue 2's,disposable soft lenses. She should be ok. We'll take the glasses too.

Funny, just now we were watching channel 5's coverage of Media Day and the girl that rode Dragster said it shoved her contacts to the back of her head :)

I wear Acuvue 2 and i am concerned about TTD too. I did wear my contacts last year to the park, all 6 times i went, and i only had 1 problem. I lost my right contact on Raptor. What i do is bring an extra pair to leave in the car just in case. And i bring my eye drops, and when ever they feel a little dry, pop some of those in and im good.

They will get dry at somepoint in the day, so just bring the drops and it should be good.

I wear contacts and the wind does bother my eyes. I usually wear my sunglasses with a strap while on coasters. Does anyone know if glasses will be allowed on TFD?

I dont wear mine to CP because i usually go to soak city too and i cant wear them in the water so she just shouldnt wear them unless her vision is realy realy bad without them.

Today at media day you could wear glasses if you had them tight with a strap. I did not wear my glasses and did not have any problems with my contacts (Accuvue). I rode twice.

Glasses are permitted as long as they are worn with a secure strap. Or something like that. Just check the website, I'm sure they have all the riding info you need.

I don't have one of those goofy straps, but I'd like to wear my glasses so I can actually enjoy the view (as short as it is). I don't understand where the glasses would fly off of your face, they'd be pushed into your face the whole time by the speed. I where my glasses on MF, and they're fine, and when you're going that fast I don't think an increase in speed of 15 mph will make that much of a difference.

Richard, what'd you do?

Babylonia you rode it twice today with acuvues, and had no problems? Thats great news! I was worried a little all winter, and then today after seeing that picture of the guys face practically being pulled off i was really worried.

So thank you Babylonia! You have put my mind at rest!!!!

One of the reporters nearly lost a contact today in the front seat. Stephanie (my wife) has lost one on MF.

One of the reporters nearly lost a contact today in the front seat.

Linda Passariello from News5 mentioned that her contacts rolled to the back of her head in her live segment from the park. Obviously she was joking though it's quite possible that the force did shift the contacts around.

I would definitely let a few more guinea pigs with contacts ride first before trying it.

15mph? More like 27mph. Anyway, at the start of Media Day rides they didn't ask if you were wearing a strap, and sure enough the first train out someone lost their glasses. They immediately then announced that glasses can only be on if you have a tight strap.

I wear Accuvue 2 lenses also and never had a problem. I wear them at the Point, and also while skiing without googles, and dry eyes were never a problem.

So, if I took off my glasses(im about blind without them), would I NOT be missing the view? Or is the view so spectacular that you would recommend me wearing a tight strap on my glasses?

I wore my contacts yesterday and, although my eyes did water some, the front seat ride was unable to flush either of them out.

Really Draegs? Man that front seast ride is so intense, i thought for sure my contacts wouldn't make it. I mean i'm not doubting you, im just shocked that they stayed in for that front row launch.

Thank you Acuvue 2! (I hope thats what you use Draegs)
