I doesn't make sense...

I am not sure if this has been discussed on this board yet, but anyway...Why does Cedar Point say that Superman The Excape at Magic Mountain is not a "Roller coaster", but they have Wicked Twister on the list of the 16 coasters at Cedar Point when basically its the same thing?

I`m from the uk and Ive just joined this board. I have never ridden superman but am I right in saying that the structure of it is 415ft but the actual car doesn`t quite get near the top?

i think your right on that part, but what i meant is that it doesn't make sense for cedar point to call S:TE a free fall and not a roller coaster and then call wicked twister a "Roller coaster" when they do the same thing. they both launch, go up and come back down to the station. please correct me if im wrong. and to clear things up. im not bashin on cedar point, i have been their a lot, i just don't get what they are thinking.

Well, Wicked Twister at least goes back and forth a few times. It doesn't completely make sense, but for some reason, Impulse coasters are pretty universally accepted as coasters, while the Launch - Fall type that S:TE has always been up for debate.

I think part of the argument is that there is no turning at all on the ride, and it's only change of direction is from horizontal to vertical...looking much like a Demon - Drop that incorporates a launch. Not saying it's completely sound, but....

This is what I was thinking. If SFMM can call SM:TE a roller Coaster, why doesn't Cedar Point call Demon Drop a roller coaster? After all, it was made by Intamin, right? So what if SM:TE is launched & DD is lifted by chain That, obviously doesn't denounce either as a roller coaster. I'd like to know what, exactly, is the differenciating factor in this matter.

Philwoolyback, you are correct. S:TE has a tower 415ft high but the car only goes up 333ft or something like that. So SFMM wanted to be known as the park to have the first 400ft coaster when they really didn't need to build it that high, but they wanted to.

From the TOS:

"Examples of other unacceptable topics are ... topics that have been brought up numerous times in the past (Cedar Point is running out of room… Superman: the Escape is not a coaster…)"
