Inversions..... i think the first turn can pretty much be called an inversion i mean 122 degrees!!

Backstreet Girl, I don't think on the Steel Phantom the probolem is that there are OTSRs, it's who made them. If it was a B&M machine, nobody would complain. Arrow is not known for making their seats and restraints comfortable. And they are tearing it down because of low popularity. The Magnum is the best steel coaster in thw world, so Cedar Point can't get rid of that for at least a few years. It's not the fact that it has inversions (Steel Phantom), it's just who made it. Well, anyway, the turns are going to be enough inversion for me.

Inversions would have ruined Magnum. Let's face it, none of the Arrow loopers are very good. The B&M's are better, but the greatest coasters are still out & backs or twisters (or some variation in between). What makes a coaster great is the hands to the sky, out in the open, butt off the seat re-rideability that only a coaster without OTSR's can deliver (aside from B&M inverteds, that is). If Magnum would have been a looper it would be in the same company as Steel Phantom, Shock Wave at SFGam, Viper at SFMM, and the list goes on. Instead of mediocre, it remains one of the great ones.


Call 122 degree turns what you want, "inversions" would ruin Millennium Force. We won't know for sure until we ride it, but I firmly believe MF will be the benchmark for coasters for a long time to come. And Cedar Point knows it.

They're tearing the Steel Phantom down because of low popularity, correct. Now, why do you think it's not popular? I figured you all would have enough powers of reasoning to deduce that without me saying it. And I said the cars are uncomfortable, but it's the OTSRs that make them uncomfortable. And B&M, as far as I know, does not make normal steel hypercoasters, so if it were B&M it would be inverted or standup or floorless anyway. Your post makes no sense to me. Are you disagreeing or agreeing? Are you talking about them tearing down the Magnum in "a few years?" Please, make sense next time.

Natalie... take it easy, but I feel your pain.

I finally rode Steel Phantom, and the lack of popularity starts when they ask you to remove your earings on the platform... you know you're in for a world of hurt. I wrote a big ol' trip report on CoasterBuzz, so I won't repeat it here, but the main idea is that Steel Phantom could have been fabulous sans the inversions.

Overall, Arrow's large loopers in the last two decades have all sucked. I've yet to ride even one that I liked. Magnum is a freak of nature more than anything in Arrows history. Watch 'em fall... Drachen Fire, Steel Phantom. What's next? Shockwave? Viper?

Back to the topic... why are we talking about what the ride could have been when none of us have even been on it yet (let alone even seen it).

What if they put the worlds largest loop in after the worlds largest drop. How big of a loop can you get traveling 92 miles per hours does anyone know?, I think one true 180 degree inversion would not hurt the ride, if it had build up to it and was something special as opposed to just putting in inversions to put in inversions without much thought as to what they contribute to the ride

Well, hopefully they didn't do it because they knew PKI was putting the "new" coaster world's first loop on a woody and saw it as a gimmick. Although I don't want to get into a discussion about what a gimmick is, just leave the whole loop thing to CP's next coaster. From everything we've been hearing, I'm sure CP has the world's largest vertical loop taken care of ... again.
