Millennium Force: "The future is riding on it"
TTD: "Cedar Point is building for the future"

Were those sayings coincidence or planned? Was TTD's reality based on MF? I really do have NO clue why I thought of this but found it rather interesting! :)

When I saw the signs this season I thought that was a clue telling us that this would be a futuristic ride. Guess they just say that for no reason.

I think Cedar Point likes using the words "thrill" and "future" almost as much as it enjoys painting things in as many primary colors as it can find laying around.

They should change the names of all the coasters so they include "Future" and/or "Thrill" in them: Wicked Thriller, Magnum XFuture-200, Disaster Thrillport?

I personally think they should change it to Cedar Creek Thrill Ride. :)

Think about it: Every coaster (besides Draggie) that had a theme of sorts usually revolved around outer space, goofy robots and some sort of 'fyooture' vibe (like DT, Maggie, MF, even Gemini if you look some of the original promo nmaterial fonts) so it really isn't that surprising.

You don't have to look at the promo material - just look at the loading platform - the name "Gemini" is in a font that had a futuristic look to it.

People pay to be taken to a far out reality... the past and future are just two commonly used themes when it comes to coaster and amusement ride themes.

"Cedar Point is building for some time that is after this current time." Just doesn't have the same effect.

Isn't "Gemini" also the name of one of the earliest American spacecraft?

Nope, Gemini was when we started sending two people into space. (Note the relation Gemini=Twins)

Our first spacecraft (that made it to space) was Exlporer 1, which orbited the Earth. Our first manned space craft was the Mercury series of missions (The Mercury 7 were the first seven men chosen for these expeditions). Alan Shepherd was the first of these men to make a sub orbital flight (less than one orbit of the earth). Later, John Glenn was the first American to make a complete orbit of the Earth.

The pre-space shuttle series of missions were:

*Mercury

*Gemini

*Apollo

*Skylab

See? Space Camp back in 8th grade really paid off!

[edit: Sorry, I read your post as "wasn't Gemini the earliest of American spacecraft. I guess everyone was educated for nothing!]

Yes as the capsule held two people. Gemini is the twins in greek mythology hence a twin coaster being Gemini.

Actually, Michael, your post was quite interesting. (Gemini is a zodiac symbol, too, I believe -- all this talk of the future and space travel is for some reason making me think of that song, "Age of Aquarius." Maybe I should stop listening to the Oldies station in the car every time my CD player is too cold to work correctly).

But there is one problem. Millennium Force's slogan is "The future is riding on it." Top Thrill Dragster is "Race for the sky"

"Building for the future" was just a hint, something to get people looking and interested.
