Cp's current coaster height

I went to there Sunday afternoon and here are my observations. I rode Millenium and PT and got a pretty good look at the tower. I rode Millie in the last seat and watched the tower as we went up. I felt we were at the same level as the top of the tallest corner column at about the same time as the first cars went over the top. I would guess we were around 275'-285' up. I rode the down side of the PT and sat facing the new tower. As we were lifted up, I watched the supports at the 4th catwalk level. We were about 30' from the top of the lift when all the supports lined up. Assuming a 240' ride length+10' clearance to ground, that puts the 4th catwalk level at 220'. When we were all the way at the top, I felt we were still a bit below the top of the column. This being the case, the catwalks are about 55' apart. I would guess that it is 60' from the 4th catwalk to the top of the column. This puts the top of the column now at about 280'. There were two catwalks on the ground at the base of the tower and I didn't see any others in the parking lot. I think the 5th catwalk will be at about 275' and the 6th one at about 330'. Allowing another 50'-60' or so for the tophat and with a flagpole for decoration, we could top out at about 400'.

(I made a bad assumption in my original post about the distance between catwalks #4 & #5 and had to revise my height estimate. Sorry. jw)

I agree with Kevin Lehman, I think that they're going to have to bring in an even bigger crane soon. I was thinking that maybe they were building it as high as they could before the cold weather came in from the lake because the cranes can't work in high winds, imagine working 350 feet up and in the snow? Maybe they'll bring in another crane at the beginning of March to finish off the top hat. That way they could most of the ground work done before that time comes.

I'm thinking that white mark on the one crane is at 300ft. It possibly indicates the highest point that crane can safely lift an object. If that is the case my guess is that the structure is now 250 ft.

The photo was taken in Huron, about two miles from the base of the Cedar Point peninsula.

You can get a good Idea of the heigt of the cranes at this site... Download this video and youll see a picture in the first 40 sec of all the park. Then you can presume that these cranes are about 350 feets high because MF is 310...

Jeff - Thanks for pointing out this long shot of the park which DOES give a good, scaleable reference for the height of the cranes. I'm sorry, however, but I have to disagree with your assessment that the cranes are 350' high. All I did was freeze the video at somewhere around 38 seconds which is where the long shot occurs. By simply holding a piece of paper up to the screen and comparing the height of MF to the cranes, I think that the tip of the cranes are somewhere around 300 feet.

This would also agree with the current assessment of 250' for the height of the "5 layer tower" and that there is just about enough room for the cranes to add ONE more layer onto the tower before they run out of room.

Don't wish to start argument over cranes but I believe the the 350 foot level closer to actual height. It's my understanding that another section will be added to both cranes. They should top out around 460 give or take a couple.

If they want to they can always use a sky crane chopper to lift 5 ton componants to the top. And then, there goes your crane limits out the window

I haven't noticed any vertical construction(over the past few days), although there seems to be a lot of crane activity. I was just wondering if anyone can tell what they are doing with the cranes?

Although I guess I wouldn't check out the web cams as frequently if the cranes never moved.

You'd think that, but that's how us crazy Canadians topped off the tallest tower in the world ;)
