Dippin Dots-Worth It?

cedarpointlover's avatar
I have noticed that the price for a cup of dippin dots has gone up. Last year, it was 3.25. Now it is 4.00. I really wouldnt pay 4.00 for an ice cream. Does anyone have any thoughts? *** Edited 5/26/2004 9:34:13 PM UTC by cedarpointlover***
I have seen more expensive ice cream then that... just go to Navy Pier Chicago! But really, I bought it once when I wanted to try it because I had never had it before. Would I buy it again? No. But am I cheap? Yes. Curiousity got me, that's all. Depends on how bad you want it, how much you like it, and how much expendable income you have.

Just say no to Dippin' Dots.

I bought 'em once, and can't for the life of me figure out their appeal. Especially for that price. They're just not anything special.

Even since, I've taken a spoonful occasionally if I buy them for my daughter (when my defenses are down) and haven't found anything in them to change my mind.

The only thing other than CP that Steelers and Browns fans agree on

Dippin' Dots are FUN, not tasty. they are frozen to such cold temperatures that you have to have the darn things in your mouth for hours before you acutally get any flavor out of them, unless of course it's a really hot day and they're melted before you get the first spoon to your mouth. So either flavorless ice cream for $4, or melted ice cream goo for $4. Either way, not worth it to me.

I actually find Dippin' Dots pretty good. I might not be leanient to buy them, yet I want to enjoy my day at Cedar Point to the fullest. To be honest, I think the frozen feeling is pretty neat, and it's weird to eat which makes it great. Also, I saw an off-brand of Dippin' Dots at the store. I didn't try them, though.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

I tried them once at Knoebels in 1998. Once. If you enjoy bland, freezer burn-esque crap, then you'll love Dippin' Dots!

I forget the price for large and small but buying large is crazy. A small is already all the way melted by the time you you get to the bottom. Even on a cooler day.

I enjoy them. If you think about it. Just about everything at Cedar Point is overpriced. Look at the Pepsi machines lately? I forget, but they're two, maybe three dollars now? That's horrible for a 20 oz beverage. A 20 oz elsewhere is about one dollar, possibly one fifty. But you cannot get Dippin Dots anywhere else (that I know of), so if you like them, get them while you're there. You don't go to Cedar Point to save money.
No.
Hi:

I like the 'dots'. I usually get the banana flavoured one. The cookiedough was quite tasteless.

I agree with you cedarpointlover that the price is getting a bit out of hand. *** Edited 5/27/2004 6:12:01 PM UTC by Stimpy***

If it is hot out and your child wants one, then I guess it's worth it. I personally don't care for them.
I love Dippin Dots but they are expensive. The small cup is so tiny. *** Edited 5/27/2004 8:51:14 PM UTC by Sean_N***

I was watching how they make those things on the show with Mark Summers... It's fairly interesting. I did learn some things, though... they were initially make by a biology ?PhD.? (or maybe just a bio major) that was looking for a faster way to freeze ice cream. The reason they made them into tiny balls is because they freeze the best and fastest that way. Each ?box? is quality tested, and they are frozed with a liquid gas (Perhaps Nitrogen if memory serves right) and then are stored in an underground 'freezer' with blocks of Carbon Dioxide on top of them.

Just some general and ver pointless information for you all.

I'm off to try to figure out why my signature is not showing up even though the 'show signature' is checked...

You should not buy the dippin dots. They are good, but expensive. If you want some good ice cream at the point go to the firestation over by Snake River falls. They have a big cup with Ice cream, Slushy, Strawberrys, Bannanas, and whipped cream for only 5 bucks. It may sound expensive but not compared to the tiny cup of dippin dots. But the down side is that the shop is closed on slower days. I hope that this helped.
i like dippin dots but the price is out rageous for a cup that small.
Dippin' Dots are freaky. It reminds me of Jelly Bellys and astronaut food, that flavor and that texture just don't go together. Specifically the pear Jelly Bellys which are crazy weird. When I want ice cream, I want *ice cream* and not dots. I'd rather go to the Midway Market and have a whole meal and all the ice cream I can tolerate!

Dippin' Dots are like the rides - they're there if you want them, but if you don't, no one's gonna force it upon you.

There are actually Dippin Dot vending machines out there. Not many but some.

I don't understand the obcession with dippin dots that the industry has. The cost and waste of the product is so high when served a price of 4 bucks probably only pulls in a 40-50% food cost, which for a park is abysmal. I would push that soft serve, now there's a money maker.

I find DDs to be something better enjoyed in smaller quantities, but overall i find them less than satisfactory for my dollar.

Some movie theaters have the machines. I once worked at a theater that had a machine and I believe it charged $3 for a pouch container. I personally like Dippin Dots, but I think they cost too much.

I've never tried Dippin Dots, but I think CP's food prices in general are getting out of hand. The worst are those sodas in line for coasters. You could be near dehydrated and there's no drinking fountains around. Pay up. I've seen people carried out on stretchers before waiting in line (Mean Streak the first year it was open; 95+ degrees, no shade and a 2.5 - 3 hour wait). I think they should have to put a drinking fountain anywhere they put those drink machines and not turned down so far as to be useless. But that's just me. $3 for water in a bottle is BEYOND absurd.

Meanwhile, I never bothered with Dippin Dots because CP has something WAY better. It's their frozen custard. I used to think it was the best frozen custard I ever had, but in the past couple of years it seems to have gone down hill a little bit. The taste was good last year, but the texture was too icy (bad batch?). They used to have nice fruit assortments at the fire station one, but they replaced yummy blueberries with awful banana/strawberry crap the past few years too. I think the serving size has gotten smaller over the past few years as well. Figures.

I don't have to worry about it now, though. I can't eat anything or I won't be able to ride their rides. Sorry sir, you DID fit on MF, but after eating that custard cone we can't let you on! Get back in line for more custard! We make more money that way! Would you like a $3 drink with your $3 cone? How about a napkin for $1? You can get refills all day for 50 cents (on the napkins).

Seriously, those "souvenir" cup refill deals aren't so good if you actually plan to get on rides that day. How many coasters have a place for you to keep them when you ride? We can solve that. You can rent this locker for $5 to keep your souvenir cup in so that you can save on your $3 pop.... they get you coming and going.

What's parking up to this year? Has it hit $10 yet? Can you use the season pass at Geuga Lake now too?
