YUCK!

Sorry guys, I know I'm a CP nut just like everyone here but all I have to say is YUCK! Can we hire some janitors? There were spider webs everywhere, with huge spiders crawling on them. What is so hard about wiping down the lines and coaster stations? One other thing that really bugged me... Mantis looks BAD. so do some other coasters but jeez... for being only 4 years old the paint has really worn off. They need some Sherwin Williams or something. I love Cedar Point but they have to get rid of the webs, and I think some rides could use painting. I do think Raptor looks really nice now, but for some reason there is white stuff all over certain spots of it... kind of looks like bird droppings but theres tons of it only in select areas.
Mantis is being painted for next seaosn...

And those ARE bird droppings....

I will agree about the spider webs.  Its odd they can form in the oddest places on the Magnum trains.  I also heard TC had a big spider problem a week back.

The web cleanup is usually the coaster crews problem to deal with -- that ought to be part of their opening routines, to clean out webs, sweep the queues (whatever wasn't cleaned up the night before), make sure trash cans are in the right area, etc. There can be times, though, when someone is late to work that morning or you just don't have a chance to get to it. If a coaster has some significant downtime, that will also be used for cleaning. Hopefully it will get taken care of!

Why would you want to remove the spider webs? They trap all of the pesky mayflies and mosquitos. They do need to clean all the cob webs inside the bug shields on the front of Magnum's trains.

My wife would pretty much cringe at this. Bugs are not "dirty," they're part of the natural (and very rich) ecosystem at Cedar Point. It is an outdoor park. What are you expecting?

Good answer Jerry!

Ha, you should have seen them in Raptor Station tonight. The one op I think was scared and took a broom and started hacking at them.

It used to get really nasty on the Disaster loading platform, when they'd be in the lights. In the old black lights, you'd never know when one was going to drop until you felt it on you, and then you should have seen the reaction! *Shiver* Sorry, spiders aren't my favorites.

I like the spider webs. I've seen some beautiful webs there in the past and was always afraid that somebody would knock them down. Not to mention the amount of annoying insects they get rid of - for free!

When was the last time a spider crawled down your drinking straw, landed inside your ear, or orbited your head for 15 minutes? Give these creatures some respect!

Okay, I've had it! I am a sweep and I have to say how sick I am of hearing these posts about icky spider webs and ick this and that. We are at the park at 8:30 a.m. , sometimes earlier and most of us work until 11:45 or 1. We work hard and try our best to keep the park clean. The ride operators also have long days and you have to give us credit. We try. We don't get on our hands and knees and knock down every little web. At least CP has people like sweeps. Most parks do not.

the past, but this is an all time low..."
Hey, floridaguy, I was a sweep too -- Zone 1 '97 & '98 -- I know how hard the sweeps work! Opening crews got there about 9:15am (still do as far as I know) -- and absolutely, we worked our butts off. I don't know how many red chairs I cleaned off and wiped down, Cad. Car fences I brushed down, telephones I wiped off... Oftentimes, sweeps may work even harder than ride crews, because we don't get to sit down at entrance or controls -- we're moving, 15+ miles a day, in the sun, in the heat, in the rain. I know! (Ride ops, I've been there too - it isn't as easy as all that!) But you have to admit that the cobwebs can get out of hand, even if there aren't enough hours in the day to get anything done about it. Everyone could pitch in and it still wouldn't be totally under control.

Like Jeff said, it's an outdoor park - what do you expect? And it's freaky how fast those spiders build their webs, you just can't keep up!

I saw a guy with a broom sweeping around the supports and chain motor for Snake River Falls yesterday.  One guy in line said "It's a good thing he is making seven bucks an hour".

I didn't really notice any cobwebs, but those things pop up over night what can you expect.

Taking a step back, to the bird droppings on the Raptor... Isn't Raptor a Bird of Prey anyways? heh heh...

I dont think the employees try there hardest considering... While after getting off RipCord the employee told us to follow her if wanted to see something really cool, so we did. She took us to a spider web where she fed the spider a mayfly she had caught but it didn't eat it. She said "hmm the other one always eats them. Come here." She tooke us to another spider web at RipCord and fed another mayfly to a different spider, the spider did attack the fly and rap it with web. Point being I dont think she planned on wipin down the cobwebs.
Sounds like the spiders were doing a good job to me.
I have to leap to the defense of the sweeps.  As I was driving back toward Soak City the other day, I saw one girl using a pair of tongs to pick up cigarette butts along the fenceline between the Blue Streak & the Marina Gate, right next to the flower beds by the Turnpike Cars.  Also saw two people with brooms knocking cobwebs off of the black iron fences down past the CP & LE RR train shed and near the Force.  It was hot, and they had my sympathy!

Hey, spiders are cool!

EHemdo09, I am not sure what, if any job you have, but apparently, you have never been a sweep. You and the other people, such as the person who started this thread, don't realize the fact that sweeps, group utility, food service and ride operation employees work hard to keep the park clean. You don't have the right, as a single person to judge rather or not the employees work "hard enough" in your eyes. Also, you don't need to come on sites such as this one and complain, hoping to either put employees down, or gain the support of those who complain. Please do not comment further, as it can be degrading.
