Personally, I would spend more time on this ride if the line moved faster. I LOVE this ride! It ranks #3 for me in the park. I won't go to the park without getting at least 4 rides per day.
Like most coasters, you need to ride them to know where the ride will hurt you and then be prepared for those points of the ride. Half of the thrill of the ride is the stand up part. But if the ride attendants don't make sure your in tight, you may have room to slip out of the restraints, fall to the ground and sue the hell out of them! It is for your safety and I think the crew always does a good job! I for one want to get off, see my ugly mug shot and get right back on it.
Although I do have to say my wife will ride it once and she is good for the day. She ranks it about #7 in the park.
And you think that matters to me, Why?

But Ben, since when does following "proper operating procedures" mean "take your sweet ass time?" In my opinion, it's all about attitude with their crew.
I know a couple of people on the crew very well, and I can guarantee you that the slow loading time has to do with operational procedures, not them taking their sweet time.
Maybe if you worked the ride, you would understand.
I really like the Mantis. I agree with King's Island that it is like the King Kobra on crack. I used to love KC, until I rode the Mantis. I never knew that standing coasters could do so much. I don't get beat up by it nor do my privates get smashed. Guess you have to know how to ride it. My only problem is the slow loading times. And, really, I don't care whom is at fault for the slow loading, but something should be done. Mantis shoud be a 45 minute wait tops.
I think the hill is cool, and the turn arount to the loop is cool, and the loop is cool, abut after that, it kills my back and neck.
I think all of you need to spend a day on Mantis and work the ride like bholcomb said. Perhaps then you will understand but unless you have worked a shift there, then you have no room to talk.
hate it! besides the uncomfortable "seat", i just cant stand the feeling of the ride, so much pressure exerted on your legs. last time i road it i wanted to pass out, im very surprised i didnt lost my lunch on it. without a doubt the worst coaster experience ive ever had. i dont think ill ever try another stand up coaster.
mantis is a sweet ride, downfalls, sure every ride does! the brakes on the first drop kind of sux, but oh well, and i mean what do you expect when you are going to ride a rollercoaster that you stand up on and has a little yellow bike seat up your.....! its an awsome ride, i has a fourm before about it, i still wish they loaded faster...but been there talked about that. that ride is still one of the best.
Yes, I worked at Cedar Point...how else would I have formed such a strong opinion about the ride/crew?
This year one of their crew members tried to explain to me why the ride was so much more difficult to run than any other ride because of the seats, but I wouldn't have any of it. Every ride has some sort of annoyance to deal with from an operational standpoint, but you find a way to deal with it efficiently. I've personally heard their crewmembers in the break area boasting about the sarcastic comments they've made towards guests over the PA while on spiels.
This isn't just something that's been evident this year, it's an ongoing problem with the crews of the past few years.

Personally, I don't care how long it takes them to dispatch the trains, as long as I get a ride I won't complain.
Yeah, really. I don't mind waiting in excruciatingly long lines that would actually be pretty damn short if the ride operators could load the trains a little faster. As long as I get to ride, you know?

I don't mean to criticise people, but the ride goes not hurt your legs. If you put the little seat at the comfortable height, about 1 inch from your bottom, you will have a good ride. If much higher or lower, it can get painful. It's just the g-forces you're feeling, not pain. :/
I don't like Mantis and probably will not ride it again. My feet and legs hurt so bad after riding it. I could still feel the vibration of the ride thru my body long after getting off the ride.

That's the way I prefer to ride, rathofdoom, but the crew is instructed to make sure the bike seat is in constant contact with the rider. I admit whenever I get that one inch it is a much more comfortable ride than when the seat is snuggly against me.

A friend of mine got a leg cramp from riding Mantis. But, in retrospect, he thought that it was because he didn't relax enough and had his legs tightened. Made sense to me at the time.

I've found that it's quite easy to fool the ops...As long as you don't ride in front.
Right when they say on the mike that they're locking the seats, you just slouch the slightest bit. I've never been "caught" yet. *** Edited 9/15/2004 2:54:59 AM UTC by rathofdoom***
Way to go. If they "Catch" you, the ride op who checked your seat can get written up for a low-seat violation. What a way to make their day even more of a pain.
Yeah I don't mind the slow loading time. Just as long as I get to ride.
The Mantis needs two things it needs a new station an unloading station that would speed things up alot and if that hapened we could run three trains again. The other thing is get rid of the seat belts and get new restraints similair to Wicked Twister that shape to fit your body. But I also do understand that Cedar Point wants their guests to be safe and not having seatbelts might not keep them as safe.

In my opinion, you either like stand-ups or you don't. I personally like the Togo stand-up design better. The ride experience was much more comfortable than B&M's version and I was sad to see PKI remove King Cobra. I feel that Mantis isn't the best B&M stand-up out there... Riddler's Revenge at SFMM is a far better ride, despite it's similar load/unload time issues, but I'll still defend Mantis, its still an enjoyable ride, especially because it is so different than any other coaster at CP.
I belive if you do get hurt legs on Mantis, it could be your legs aren't in tip-top shape. I've never had any problems on it, though I can see how you could.
