I'm also having the video freeze problem with my PC, which is more than adequately equipped to handle HD. My video card is a Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB using the ATI Catalyst CC v1.2. Originally, the video would quit playing almost immediately and the sound would continue. Having updated my Catalyst settings to support both 720 & 1080, I now get about 3-5 seconds of video before it freezes, and possibly a couple more frames after that.
I realize this is probably a video driver problem of some sort, but don't know if its a DirectX or HD-related problem.
If anyone experiences similar problems or finds a solution, it would be nice to hear what was done to correct this.
EDIT: Its also worth noting that this is most likely an HD problem, as I can play other mov's, including the iPod videos with no problems whatsoever.
My PC specs: AMD Athlon XP 2600+, 1024MB.
Thanks!

I'll check it when I get home. I've got that same setup just with an Intel instead of AMD. I had it set to download one of the movies while I was at work today.

Its strange, because I can see that it was probably related to my card's HD settings because it improved (very) slightly when I changed them, yet it just stops.
EDIT: If I click on the time bar, I'll get a few more seconds, at which point it freezes again. I can repeat this process over and over.

Jeff, my main problem with avid is that when I looked into getting it the cost was insane when compared to Final Cut Studio.
Cedar Point - An adventure waiting for everyone.
Well, that's the problem, Jeff. I can't use QT at work. I'm stuck with Realplayer. I can't load anything to my work PC without an "administrator password" that only our techs have access to.
I'll dump on Gordon this weekend. He's also a QT phobe after discovering it threw some crap into the background of his PC that interfered with his synthesizer software, so I've been under a death threat if I download QT at home as well.

If you dont like what you see on this site (this is to the guy who created this topic) then go somewhere else before you complain about things, insult the creators of this awsome site, and then smutter out sentence fragements about how you make piles of cash and are better than everyone else here.
That's just my two cents. No hard feelings to anyone.
None taken, but exactly when did I assume I was better than everyone here?
I agree this site is awesome and Jeff/Staff of pointbuzz do a tremendous job. I just thought that the video should at least be presented in both formats.
Once again, I'm sorry for causing such a stir ( I just don't like apple products), I just thought it should be done as a WMV file.
Once again, Jeff I'm sorry.
I'm glad I finally moved to Windows XP last December. Running Windows ME limits you from doing anything that came out for the past year or more. Now I want a Mac once OS X 10.5 comes out and the Intel products become more of the standard. They're still a little rough around the edges to pay so much for a Mac.

Well if you don't like Apple products, then say so instead of telling us your (fake) resume and proclaiming them inferior when you don't know what you're talking about.

ATI is notorious for having crappy drivers. I know your CPU, I have the same one (well, a lower one over-clocked to your speed, but that makes it the same). It will play 720p at about 12 fps. It can generally do the 480/30p at full speed.

Avid Xpress Pro is about the same price as FCS. The hardware based solutions are more.

I downloaded QT from home and still all I get is sound, no video. I get an error about not having the right "compressor".

Hmmm...The usual error you'll get with QuickTime 6 is something like, "Required software is not installed on your computer. Unfortunately, it is not available from Apple's server." I've been getting that a lot lately as I REFUSE to upgrade my desktop machine at home to QuickTime 7 until I am certain (with my laptop, which I upgraded this week) that it and OS X.4.6 are actually stable and compatible with my Avid.
QuickTime 7 is a major rewrite of QuickTime which, on the Mac changes it to a universal binary, and on both platforms changes the signal flow model to offload as much of the video heavy lifting as possible to the display hardware. The changes are so significant that a lot of the stuff we have come to expect from QT-6 simply isn't there anymore, or doesn't behave the way it should, because I don't think ANYBODY knows everything there is to know about QuickTime, and a few things got missed in the port. I keep hoping we see a release of QuickTime 7.1 fairly soon...
Oh, and Avid just dropped the price on Xpress Pro again, in order to try and keep it competitive with Final Cut Pro; and they expect to release the HD version for the Mac in this quarter. :)

I was able to play all the videos just fine on my iBook G4, 1.4Ghz with a Radeon 9550, running QuickTime 7 on X.4.6.

Jeff basically ignored my apology, was wrong about my resume and is a much smaller man than I am.
At least I can apologize when I'm wrong.
Could you?
Apologize for what? If you're gonna call people out and tell them they don't know what they're doing and make generalizations about the products they use, and start bragging about the size of your wallet, you want me to consider your apology as something that's sincere? Whatever dude.

I love my apple and ever since i made the switch a year ago (i have been using PCs all my life i know that i made the right decision. Many of my friends here at college have so many problems with spyware crap....so glad i don't have to deal with that.
and i agree with the guy who said that you should smash your pc and that you would thank him some day if you made the switch.
i yield.

All right, I gotta be honest here, I honestly can say that I don't really care what system anyone else is using. I wish that everyone used Apple, but when push comes to shove, it does not matter. However, it really erks me when people get all offensive against the Mac when they dont even know what they are talking about!!!
