You have to love the hipocracy....

.. that is being displayed by alot of park people now.

CP Irvine, Wildcatadam, and I were at the park last night. We made a commnet to some of the Magnum crew about the whole "sliding to #3 on the Golden Ticket Awards" thing.. Now I realize people will defend their favorite ride to the end.. but the pure hipocracy made me laugh so hard I almost fell down the exit ramp..

"So.. you guys slipped to #3 huh??"

"It's only a magazine.. it doesn't matter any"

"You didn't seem to think that when you were #1"

"Whatever.. get off the platform"

It was very humorous... Like I said... I understand defending your ride.. but at least do it with some standards.. not a one way street who's "perfered direction of travel" changes only to meet your needs.

Yes.. Magnum will always be #1 to some.. others.. it won't be.. but to say "It's only a magazine" once you're no longer on top?? Have some standards people...

Yeah come on people, face it, have the "guts" to admit that Magnum isn't #1 anymore.  And stop denying it!  I know it is still #1 to some of you and it can never be replaced, but as you know, it's only a magazine.  LOL.  I do love the hipocracy.
Here's my prediction...

Magnum has withstood the test of time.  Although MF has claimed the #1 spot in the magazine (and personally with me), eventually Magnum will regain its spot at the top of the list.

Let me ask you this?  For how many of us was our first ride on MF the best ride you had on it?  You never get that same adrenaline rush back that you had the first time.

For Magnum, I'd be willing to bet that your first ride wasn't your best.  It's that lasting and continuing rush on Magnum that kept it at the top of the charts for 10 years.

Thoughts?

Ya but Cedar Point is still number one and that is all that matters!  Lets see who is number one now, hummmm Millenium something.  I don't remember where that rollercoaster is located, gee I wish I knew where that ride was located so I could ride it some day.  The only rides I ride are rides rated number one.
THen you, my poor son, are going to miss out on ALOT of great rides around the country and world.. and I welcome this... shorter lines for me...

When I asked some of them about it, they still are going by the  NAPHA poll since it was the one used by discovery. We will have to wait about another 8 month to find the results of that one.

I have Magnum at #1 just for sentimental reasons since it got me into coasting really. Someday I may pull it of that spot for that reason. But right now MF is my unofficial #1

...and the most controversial poll in the industry.  The same one that had the KW Thunderbolt as the best wooden coaster in the world and the Steel Phantom as #2 steel.  There's no Pittsburgh bias there. ;)

VERY good point Scott... at least the Golden Ticket is more of a spread out poll.. I'm willing to bet if you based your poll in L.A. you'd get Goliath or something else..

A poll is only as good as it's statistical sample and it's area coverage. Much like if you were to conduct a poll reguarding President Bush in Boston, you'd get generally alot of negative feedback because of the strong democratic support for the Kennedy family there as opposed to going out to the midwest in Iowa or Kansas where you're mainly stronger republican.

I'd love to see what some of the Magnum Crew members say when they work MF next season...

I've been on Magnum Force once and Millennium XL-200 once as well, and I totally screwed up your minds!

LOL but I've been on MF once, and Mag. once, and I went on MF first, so I guess it kinda spoiled my taste for the Magnum.

*kick me*

I'm just saying.. it's funny how CP uses the Golden Ticket in a BUNCH of their advertising, but the Magnum crew suddenly wants to quote another poll or whatever now that they are not on top. Have standards..

I have to agree... chances are Magnum will make it to the top again someday.. it IS a great ride, but don't keep changing your rules to fit your own agenda.

Exactly, Rob. And what's wrong with being #3, I might ask? (But I won't ask Dan...) With 1200+ steel coasters in the world, this is still quite an honor. So just change the phrase from "The #1 steel roller coaster in the world..." to "voted one of the greatest steel coasters in the world..."

Honestly I think it will start its stay slip down the top five and or top ten this decade.  Shes not getting any younger, and she's not getting any smoother :-)
Actually If they say "Voted Number one steel coaster in the world for 10 straight years" they aren't lying, just stretching the truth a bit :-).

I too feel the Golden ticket is a more accurate poll than the NAPHA one. The Golden Tickets Surveys are sent out evenly around the country. Most of the returns come from the Midwest, but I think that is because more people have been to amusement parks around here because there are so many.

I hear almost every time I ride Magnum "this isn't #1" or "My knees Hurt." MF is one of those you slap down the lap bar and go while Magnum you have to use a combination of tightening the belt, crossing the legs at the ankles, and making sure the bar dose not come down anymore from positive G's. MF by  far is more popular than Magnum perhaps for this reason.

I think NAPHA will still probably vote Magnum as #1, which would lead to confusion next year with both rides claiming they are number one, sort of like right now.

I for one don't know which is my #1 because they are difficult to compare. It depends if I'm in the mood that night to be ejected out of my seat or dropped 300 feet and floated for 5 seconds.

I do agree with Rob about what the crew is saying about the poll. They could simply say "Let's see how MF rates in 13 years"

I knew it was bound to happen. But I agree with Duane about Magnum will most likely regain top spot. What irritated me the most was that MF got it. I would give it to Raptor before MF. Was surprised that Raptor slipped down.

A lot of people agrre with me that MF is not the same ride anymore. A friend and myself call it the "World's Largest Kiddie Coaster". It's just a boring ride now!
You can always count on Dan & I to stand behind Magnum!

I'll agree, for me MF lost it's charm after my first ride... it only regained some because i took my first night ride on it last week... It's a good ride, but not a great ride.

Boring?   Please explain that answer.  Everyone must love being bored so much that they race to MF every morning.  :)    The only thing that I see even being close to boring on this ride is waiting in the long lines with all the other boring people in the park ;).  I know, everyone likes a certain ride, but come on, MF boring?

Sorry, its been a long day, and I haven't posted in a while.  I respect everyones opinions.
