Would giving Mean Streak the New Texas Giant treatment be worth it?

But why rebuild it? It's massive, it's gorgeous, and it could probably be changed pretty easy to add some more exciting twists and turns, sharper banks, and maybe even a higher speed.

I jsay have Intamin bulldoze it and build something that will be greater than El Toro, and is awesome to look at.

The way Mean Streak is now is perfect how it is. It may be rough, but that's the whole point of it. Riding it this year it's way better then it ever has been and seeing it lit up at night makes it even better. Making it have a steel frame would not look as good and would take away from the ride.

11 years.

^If re-done by Rocky Mountain, it wouldn't have a steel frame. Still a wooden rather a steel track.

Well of course it would be faster if they remodeled it. They wouldn't have so many trims on it like it does now. It would be interesting what type of layout they could come up with for Mean Streak if it was remodeled.

I've spent hours riding the new Texas Giant and think what they've done to revive the ride is nothing less than amazing. The ride's footprint remained the same for the most part, but the profile has been extreamly altered for the better. By doing so, the company preserved an iconic and loved piece of their history while improving the experience (and maintenance cost) ten-fold. But preserving and improving on park history doesn't seem like Cedar Fair's style or strong point to me.

And one of the nails has been hit on the head.

The reason Texas Giant was not simply torn down is because for that park and that region, it is a monument; it's a roller coaster landmark. So the extra cost of refurbishing it was well worth it. If you have a historical building in your town do you simply tear it down and put up a new one, or do you refurbish it; preserving history and ushering in a new generation at the same time?

I'm not convinced this is the case with Mean Streak, however. Blue Streak is a legend...Mean Streak never reached that type of status, mainly because of all of it's issues.

I think the RM topper track for rough spots would be ideal but I don't think a full steel i-beam treatment is needed. I would like just basic reinforcement of the supports and track to get rid of the trim brakes.

They need to do it. Texas Giant looks extremely fun.

It's fun but it's not what I'd call worth-the-money. I'd think a nice GCI wooden coaster would be a ton more fun than trying to redo a Dinn & Summers 'masterpiece'

With that said, Texas Giant is still a good ride now, I just am not a huge fan and would like to see CP go in a different direction with mean squeak.

I've ridden Mean Streak since new, and I remember getting off it the first time and thinking "Meh!"

The more GOOD woodies I ride, the more I realize the layout of MS is just not that exciting. Let's get rid of it and get something worthwhile. I'd hate to see them sink a ton of money into putting lipstick on the pig.

A GCI with the double up double down hill would be great. :)
