Worried

In the Register article posted here on GTTP it says about 2002 will see "filler" rides. What exactly does filler rides mean? If it means what I think it means, that there will be no new coaster for 2002, I am kinda upset.

There is no rule that says that Cedar Point cannot put in filler rides and a new roller coaster in the same year. Maybe we will be blessed with both for 2002. We won't know for sure until 2002 and we haven't even gotten to 2001 yet, so I'm not worried about it. *** This post was edited by Muckmack on 12/2/2000. ***
I'd think that something like Chaos could be considered a "filler" ride. Not necessarily a bad ride or anything, but not requiring nearly the work or resources of a coaster.

Maybe 2002 will bring along the boardwalk project. From what I have heard CCI's coasters are fairly cheap. They could probally then afford to put in a few filler rides and shops in to make the project more complete. So, I am not really concerned.
Ok, here's my guess as to what "filler" rides mean...
As I look around CP, the onl place I could think of that needs to be "filled in" is the Oceana Midway. So, maybe "filler" rides mean the new boardwalk project as mentioned earlier in this topic!

As far as the roller coaster is concerned, there is a lack of coasters in that area, so a coaster could nicely "fill" the space there!!!

They need to do something to draw
attention to the Oceana Midway.

Don't be so ticked off about not getting a new coaster, look at how much we just spent on Millennium Force. We can't put those in every year. And lets not for get we did not get a new coaster between 96 and 2000. We were blessed with Power Tower, which I think you can consider a filler ride. So maybe in 2002 we will get a thrill ride like that.
CP4Ever, if CP is worried about the most roller coasters in the world title, I don't think that that will happen. They need not divoulge(sp?) all there secrets two years ahead of what is going on!

"Your obssesed w/ that place aren't you?"
I have a question... I remember this being stated before as to what we can expect in 2001 "You know how we followed up Magnum" and I'm not real sure how they followed up Magnum but I dont think it was with a camping place
I wouldn't call Power Tower a "filler ride." I think Power Tower cost more than people think it did. The last "filler ride" we got was Chaos in '97. I don't want to say the climbing wall becasue that is an attraction that you have to pay extra to do.

The park is aware of the rumors of Magic Mountain getting two coasters, so I think that in what ever CP has planned they will stay ontop.

Don't get worried over problems that don't exist.

Don't worry, Cedar point has to manage their money properly. Even Filler Rides would attract more guests! Anyone agree?
Don't forget we got Woodstock in '99.
EHemdo09, in 1990 several things followed up Magnum, but the two things that stick out in my mind are the revamping of Avalanche Run to DISpatch mASTER Transport, and the expansion of Soak City. So I believe what the park representative meant was an expansion of some sort. This would have Lighthouse Point fit in very well with that statement.
Whatever happened to that comment from a park official that said, "remember how we followed up Magnum" or something to that sort? Do we see a decent woodie (or at least another coaster) in the near future (2002-ish) or is this guy clueless?

Dear God, if they are going to build a coaster in 2002 do you honestly think that Dick would have said it in that interview? Why not just send a certified letter to SFO and PKI with the complete specs so they can counter with a ride of equal or better caliber?

Which is the exact reason most parks keep their announcements secret until it's far too late for another park to try to top it... at least until the following season.

OK, am I just dreaming or did I really see that somewhere. I am pretty stupid for believing what I read. As Jeff said earlier, it's the people that don't know that talk and the people that do know who don't talk. Just sounded logical in a way. Oh well, wishful thinking!

If a park official said, "remember how we followed up Magnum" and he or she had at least some clue as to what they were talking about, then CP has already tipped their hand. If anybody has forgotten, it was 2 years after the Magnum that the monstrous wooden Mean Streak surfaced from the depths of Lake Erie.

Now if only Mean Streak would go back whence it came...
