Word of Mouth

Now, Im sure this has been discussed in another way before, but I wanted to share what I would consider something positive that I havent seen discussed before.

Well I moved to washington D.C. 6 years ago(my first trip to cp was 7 years ago). So when I told people here about cp and how excited I was about going, very very few people knew what I was talking about and gave me the usual "are you crazy, paramounts kings dominion and busch gardens is the best!?!". Well I have to say over the years increasingly more and more people know what Im talking about when I talk about Cedar Point, I rarely get the crazy looks, and now people are even starting to say "lets make road trips to cp."

Well if my area is any indication, Im sure this is also happening in other regions in the country that are 6+ hours away. Well to make this a topic, I find this interesting given that Cedar Point doesnt really have an ad campaign much out of ohio(with exceptions, i.e. chicago), but the word of mouth is really spreading about how great the place is. Well I was wondering what you guys think of this, and if anyone else from out of town can relate to what Im saying?

Well I can't too much because I live about 2 hours from the POINT. But anyway, I see why they are getting it. When Millennium Force was built, it was a BIG deal. It wasn't like Raptor or Mantis, just the biggest of their kind. Millennium Force was the biggest, period. And now with Dragster, Cedar Point has made itself into a amusement park staple. They don't have to advertise too much because folks know, that is the park with that big roller coaster.

Ohio State, here I come!

Well I'm 5 hours away in Grand Rapids, MI (4 the way I drive) and they are advertising like crazy for CP. MA is just 1 hour away and I only see half the commercials for MA as CP. And CP has been breaking world records since I can remember (late 70’s ) my parents taking me and my sister to CP. Once I got a little older my church youth group went every year, I always invited my friend that went to a different church cause his youth group went towards the end of the season so we both got to go 2 to 3 times a year. That had to help with word of mouth cause I all ways got jellus looks when I talked to my friends. I guess I just grew up lucky, I’ve gone to CP a least once since I was a kid and if my family didn’t go to CP we went to PKI, SFGA, or at least a supple day trips to MA.
Hey Randy, u live in grand rapids? thats cool i live about 30 minutes from you in Grand Haven, anyway, on the contrary, I haven't seen one CP advertisement, but I just about have the Michigans Adventure commercial memorized as thats like 30 minutes away

Born To Ride The Rollercoaster

I'm from Nashville, TN and can definitely relate. My family and I went back in 2000 with the opening of Millenium Force. Of course i'm the only one who will ride anything bigger than Cedar Creek Mine Ride, but I love it anyway. Yeah, i've never seen a CP commercial. I think I heard of it from Thrillride.com, but i've told everyone I know about the Point. Can't wait to go back!
Over hear in Albany, NY (7-8 hour drive) tons of people know about CP. Well I tell everyone I can about CP and have got about 8 of them to plan trips to CP. I have a few friends who might come with me in August. My math teacher even knew about it, when she saw my getaway guide for 2003 she told me that she's going in late July. During the week of coaster shows on Travel Channel they talked about how MF was not the tallest anymore and SD2000 was taller so kids would come up to me tell me "The coaster at the park you like is not the tallest anymore", and I would tell them that I know than tell them about TTD. About 2 people saw it as #2 on the Travel Chanels top ten list and the decided that it's pretty close so they should go to CP and they planned trips. So yes the word about the park has really spread over the last few years.
Cedar Point gets a lot of air time on the Travel and Discovery channel, particularily when they reuse the same footage over and over again for shows on coasters, parks, great lake vacations, etc. etc. theme shows. Here in Houston the Sunday paper had a good sized article on the best amusement parks in the country and a Cedar Point picture was on the front page of the Travel section.
I live in Chicago and have never seen any advertisement for CP except for on a Pepsi can.

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Are your ready for some speed? We've got 120 miles per hour! Are you ready to get vertical? We've got 420 feet. Are you ready for the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the world?! ARE YOU READY FOR TOP THRILL DRAGSTER?!?
Over and down here in Lancaster, PA (please spare the Amish jokes!) more and more of us are making the 7 hr. trip. Even though we have several "amatuer" coaster parks in the area, my season ticket money goes to Cedar Fair. Dorney Park is only about a 1-1/4 hr. drive away, so that is where we get our picture taken for the pass, yet we have been to the point twice this year and have yet to visit Dorney. (We will be getting to Dorney in August) As far as advertising goes in this area...I think TLC, Discovery, A&E and Travel channel have that covered. I did hit dragster twice this year...Worth the wait!
That is not at all the case here in Kernersville, NC, or the surrounding area for that matter. I visited the Point twice in my 8th grade year, and my friends thought I was insane.

You're driving 8+ hours to ride some stupid roller costers?!?! Carowinds is only 1.5 hrs away! (This was all followed by being called "you freak," etc.)

So it hasn't hit good ol' NC yet, that CP is an awesome and the best park in the world! I think I'm the only one here who knows where Sandusky, OH and CP are!

I get the same "deer in the head lights" look in Nebraska when I speak of Cedar Point. But recently, now that the park is mentioned quite a bit on the Discovery and Travel channels, people are beginning to come up to me and ask questions. The Point is a cool 12 hour drive for us but it is a small sacrifice when compared to the payout. There is talk of opening an amusement park near Omaha but I keep thinking that I'll be disappointed because I'll know what a real park experience should be.
etniesboy66, I don't know exactly where you live in the DC metro area, but over here in Laurel they've been playing the CP commercial with TTD constantly. I see it at least 3 times a night and it's on all the major cable networks. I don't know who your TV provider is but it seems that CP bought a lot of time on comcast.

Also, if you want to go to SFA let me know. I get my fix there probably twice a week because it's so close and it's dead on weeknights. It's no CP, but at least there's coasters.

No way! I have cox communications, but are you serious?! Up in laurel they have Cedar Point commercials!? Im down in fairfax, wow I didn't know that at all, my bad, I guess there is a little advertising in this area.

Yeah, it must be a comcast thing. A lot of people at work see my on ride photo from MF and tell me how great CP is and how they want to go. Nobody has taken me up on it yet, but I'm still going anyhow. Then there's others that still have no clue.
