Wooden Rollercoaster

Why are the new type of wooden coasters that use steel supports, use a scafolding type support, I wonder if it is possible to use a column support structure, like on B&M's but with a woden track. I'll betcha that if B&M were to ever try a wooden coaster that is what it would look/be like.
What?!?
