Wooden Coaster Rule!

I love wooden coasters. I think More need to be built. Im so tired Of the steel thing. Its been overplayed to the top of the the design board.Going upside down is very overrated.Ill take an old out and back anytime over a Maverick or a Vekoma. B and m inverted steel was ,in my opinion the most creative style of steel. Now all of them being built are cookie cutters of themselves.I live in Pennsylvania, Where there is A small park Called Waldameer. A quaint park on the shores of lake Erie. The park has been in the planning stages for years to build a full scale woodie. Dreams do come true! It will be called Ravine Flyer" And will open in the spring of 2008.It will go out and back from the park and accross A road that leads down to a state Park Called Prescile State Park. It will travel along a bluff like the coaster does At Lake Compounce, In Conneticut. It will be a wooden coaster track with steel supports. but, It will not go upsidedown. THANKYOU!This to me is exceptable. Now this is a coaster!!! I thinks its going to have PTC trains. So this will make the ride exsperience Supreme!. I cant wait. My friends and I will be one of the first to ride. And We cant wait. Can Cedar Point come back to the era when coasters can still be built like the Blue Streak And ( At Cedar Point )And the (Grizzly )At Kings Dominion? Can Cedar Point go back to the days? What do you think? Steel Or Wood?

So what does Waldameer getting a new coaster (maybe I'll get out there next summer) have to do with Cedar Point?

And when did Maverick become a cookie cutter coaster? I don't see anything out there even remotely close to it.

And could you try using paragraphs and proper capitalization? It really does make it much easier to read a post.

What's "a" Maverick? You talk like there is more than one. Are the others open in the winter, because I could use a vacation. :)

^^^Wow. I can't decide if it sounds like a 60 year old guy who never made it out of the 8th grade or a younger product of the local public school system. How is it possible to be that unable to communicate via the written word?

^To be fair I think he was implying that Maverick was one among many similar coasters. Not sure where he gets that idea though.

Oh, and to answer the question, I'll take steel over wood anyday. Could any wood coaster ever approach Millennium Force?

Haha. Good one Gomez.

I kind of understand what aint coasterin is trying to say. I really enjoy wooden coasters. Grizzly is one of my favorites. And I think that theme parks should get more wooden coasters. And just because there is newer technology (steel coasters) doesn't mean that they should stop making wooden coasters. Don't get me wrong, I like steel coasters also. But there's just something awesome about wooden coasters (Maybe its the feeling that the coaster isn't going to support you and your gonna fall off).

I find it difficult as well to see how Maverick is even remotely like any other coaster out there. It's lift hill, drop, launch tunnel, and low to the ground elements aren't found together on any other ride.

Ya. Most coasters depend on height and drops to be thrilling. Maverick uses twists and turns. Deffinetly not like any other coaster out there.

okay, you guys, stop making fun of their english. this is not what the topic is about.

i think wooden coasters are very bumpy and steel ones go faster up hills and much smoother. pretty much all agree?

That is basically true for wooden coasters at a Cedar Fair or other corporate park, but if the coaster is well maintained, as it should be, they can be smoother than a steel ride. Wood gives more than steel sometimes giving a more flowing ride. I would shudder to think about how a steel coaster with a layout like Voyage would feel like.

I basically go to Cedar Point for the steel coasters (and sometimes Blue Streak will give good rides), but for wooden coaster experiences head to Pensylvania or Indiana.

A good well maintained woodie at at CP would be nice though, I will miss Wolf Bobs.

As T & T may say in their trip report to Knott's Berry Farm, Ghostrider is a great woodie. Lots of airtime.

I guess I sort of understand what he is trying to say. Regardless, Cedar Point is the last place I would accuse of having cookie cutter coasters. Even if there are some out there like Cedar Point's, in most cases Cedar Point's is/was one of the first.

If you want an out and back, ride Blue Streak. It's a great ride, lots of air, and hardly ever a line. (Same goes for Magnum, by the way. :P) I agree that they need a new wooden coaster though, but there are already two rides which just go up and down hills, have a simple turnaround, and then go up and down some hills.
I could live with a twister of some sort, or maybe something that is a lot more than an out and back like the ride you mentioned, Ravine Flyer.

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

El Toro anybody? I have been asking for somthing like this since El Toro came out.

Also the only coaster thats similar to Maverick is the one at Hershey. Farinheight? Is that what its called?

Let's Get Weird.

Ya thats what it is called.

The difference between Maverick and Farinheight is that Farinheight uses a lift chain to lift the trains up a 90 degree lift hill. Which I can't wait to see how that is going to work out for them. Your Mom is too fat to ride TTD, doesn't El Toro put other modern wooden roller coasters to shame. I'd say that El Toro is the Maverick of wooden roller coasters. Nothing against the Voyage or anything, cause that is a great ride as well.
