Windseeker closed for Halloweekends

Wierd one, but it is posted on the website and app that Windseeker is not scheduled to be open during Halloweekends. I realize this could be a mistake or even from last year since I dont remember if it was open. But I dont remember them ever posting Halloweekends closures before.

Some rides are down for maintenance and some rotate staffing, but outside if water rides which I still dont remember them posting they would be closed, rides dont seem to close for the season....am I wrong?

So is this the first huge clue that we are getting a GCI on the beach called Cyclone? Seems like with a closure of Windseeker during that time.....it is for 2020 prep.

They just got through with their goal of opening up the view to the beach. I highly doubt they'd just plop a coaster down that blocks it back up again.

I can think of at least two good reasons windseeker would be closed for halloweekends. That thing has only been here for 8 years, so I doubt it's going anywhere anytime soon.

The first reason is probably because Cedar Point doesn't have as much staff for the fall.

The other reason is that Cedar Point was like, "Screw it, Windseeker is more trouble than it's worth to keep open in the fall. We ain't knott's, so we've got all this damp mist and wind."

Also, if they were closing it for 2020(despite the anorexically thin possibility), wouldn't they try and make it a part of whatever is coming new for 2020 if this attraction involves the beach?

I dont think they are closing it for 2020. Not even close to what I assumed was happening. But in the website it clearly states that it is not scheduled to be open for Halloweekends.

To me this is to get the area prepped for 2020. It will reopen for 2020. There is a ton of space there, and if you think they opened it all up so we could all see the beach your crazy.

How often do you stand over by Tiki Twirl and say, man I'm glad I can see the beach from here? Better question, how often do you stand by Tiki Twirl altogether. This is an area that has been being prepped in plain site for something, what, I dont know. A GCI on the beach makes the most sense to me, but it could easily be a boardwalk style theme with old flats and games.

To reiterate, I dont think Windseeker is going anywhere, but they need to shut it down to prep the area for whatever they are doing.

The quite massive ‘sidewalk’ from windseeker to the main lot has always seemed over built to me for a pedestrian walkway with little purpose. We’ve thought since it was opened that there’s likely more to come in this area, likely for 2020.

Ouimet literally said they removed DT specifically to open up views of the beach, because they believe the beach is one of their prime, distinctive assets.

First Ouimet isnt there anymore, second, they can say whatever they want, but DT was removed for a multitude of reason, when it rained it didnt run, it wasnt popular anymore, it was out of date, it was a huge block structure taking away from the ambiance from the area, and last but not least to replace it with another roller coaster. If you are thinking that this whole area is staying empty so you can see the beach that makes no sense, but putting things in that take advantage of the beach is another thing altogether, just like gatekeeper does, or even Windseeker for that matter.

Ouimet is the Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors for Cedar Fair.

And he, and those he worked with still at the park, are smart folks. When he arrived he immediately identified the beach as a sorely underutilized asset. That's why they have spent the better part of a decade making a substantial investment in the beach. Making it more vibrant, attractive, with more things to do - day and night - than at any point in our lifetimes. They've also gone to great lengths to make the beach more visible and accessible. If people cannot see the beach, it's that much harder to leverage this unique asset.

Now, I'm not saying they won't ever build a coaster out that way, but if they do, they will surely do it in a way that doesn't hide the beach they've spent so much time and money on in recent years. In other words, a wood coaster is an unlikely candidate.

At any rate my response to your comment was specifically directed at the suggestion that their goal wasn't to open up the view and accessibility of the beach. They have publicly stated they did exactly that.

So the beach isn't the ambiance of the area?

Of course it is, but are we forgetting that they literally replaced it with a Roller Coaster that better fit the area. Which is exactly what they will be doing with the empty space that is there going forward.

This is why I don't post here often, somehow this turns into an argument.

Fine, they are doing nothing with the area moving forward and leaving it open so the 17 people that stand over by windseekeer and Wicked Twister have a beach to look at.

Windseeker will be closed for Halloweekends just for maintenance. There is nothing to see here.

Or because it's windy as hell, the higher you are in the air the colder it is, and barely anybody rode it anyway during Halloweekends to begin with.

Not everything is a conspiracy.

Why didn't you just say that in the first place then? Would have saved a lot of spiked blood pressure

It seems that Captain Obvious had to come to the rescue. Yes, you are right, it's too cold to ride in anything that could be described as "comfort" in late October. I have made the mistake of riding it in late Oct. too many times.

Since your idea is the simplest explanation, it's most likely the truth. Occam rocks!

This.

I cannot even remember the last time I've been to CP during Halloween and that ride was running. Even when it was warmer, and not raining, (for once) windseeker would be closed. I haven't ridden it at night even in summer b/c it was always closed due to wind. That ride has an amazing location when it comes to ambiance, but a terrible spot for weather. I look at it as more of a summer-type ride now. It's a giant lawn/beach ornament with a nice LED package....

If it's not due to them taking my advice to put in a new Gravity Group family coaster in that area, I would think WS might not be opened due to temps being below minimum operating temps recommended by the manufacturers too often to bother scheduling a crew for. It seems to me that MF and TTD would constantly be shut down if CP were worried about rider comfort during colder days and nights.

^You're comparing two of the most popular roller coasters at CP to a flat ride that very few people will be upset about if it's closed. Which, really isn't a comparison. Cold weather won't keep people from riding TTD and MF, but they will likely think twice about whether they care to ride Windseeker. And don't take this the wrong way, but even if the park did put in a GG Family coaster, it wouldn't be because they're taking your advice. :)
