Will Vertigo be torn down?

I have heard about other parks that have shut down their vertigos, have they opened them back up yet, or are they waiting for the investigation to be completed at CP?  If the investigation turns up nothing excecpt faulty metal, do you think it should be torn down?

Did they ground all Concord planes after it's crash to wait for the investigation to be completed? Yes.

Did all Cedar Fair parks not open up their Chaos rides until after they knew what went wrong at MIA? Yes.

If history holds true, I'd say tha they will be down until they have all been checked.

Also, I would bet money that Cedar Point builds VertiGo back up. I mean...why wouldn't they?

If history holds true, like in the case about the Bat ay PKI, the company addmitted fault and put in a new coaster (Vortex).  I'm not sure CP would want to put vertigo on hold for an entire summer, and than open it in '03.  The Concord investigation did take over one year.  I just hoe they don't, I have not been on it yet.

Well we're talking about a ride here, not a supersonic jet. I'm not saying VertiGo isn't complex, but I bet it's a helluva lot less complicated than a Concorde (supersonic jet, not the Chrysler vehicle).

I know that it's not as complex as the Concord, so I also added the Chaos incident...they didn't get rid of it did they?

MF count: 23

The key is: What caused the tower to fail. If the problem is limited to that particular tower, then the ride will almost certainly be rebuilt and reopened. If the problem is a design flaw that can reasonably be corrected, the ride will almost certainly be rebuilt and reopened. If the problem is a design flaw that cannot be corrected, then you'll see both of the Cedar Fair rides disappear.

Personally, I think it's a little bit of each of the first two options.....but I'm not an engineer, just a nut with a keyboard.

Why tear Vertigo down?

It  falls down by itself.

I think S&S will correct whatever problem caused this, and I bet the CP Vertigo will reopen. It's a new ride and S&S will most likely foot the bill for the repairs, IMHO.

Touche, MrScott.
Thanks, MrDave!

I just don't get people defending something that they don't know anything about.

Capeesh?

I would doubt it would be torn down. Yet, a good public relations practice might be to give people free rides during the first weekend the park is open; just to prove to people that it still really is safe....

I don't think the public reaction to it will be great.  A lot of people that generally don't care about CP have talked to me about it and said they would never go on it.  When I explained that the problem probably wouldn't have happened during the season, they still said it was unsafe, and you'd have to be crazy to ever go on it again.  I hope CP keeps it.  VertiGo is an amazing ride, and I'll be paying my money to ride it again!

Mikey... Add me to the list.. I will join you for a opening day ride. :)

I know that Cedar Point would not reopen the ride if it isn't safe. Call me crazy, but I like liven on the edge... Evertime I rode VertiGo I was scared beyond belief. Now when I get on it, VertiGo will seem even scarier, thus for me, I will enjoy the ride even more.
