Wild Water Kingdom Question

I know that this is pointbuzz and is focused on cedar point, but I was at wild water kingdom today and noticed that the lifeguards had the little handheld counters and were counting the number of riders on all the bigger slides. This is something that I did not notice last year. Does anyone know if this is new for all cf water parks or is this just at wild water? Also, why would they decide to start counting riders at a waterpark?

They have been doing it for years at WWK. Not new :)

I was actually surprised that at King's Island's Soak City, they do not have turnstiles when you enter. You would think they would be wanting to keep track of how many visit that park as well (maybe different since it is included in the park's admission).
