Another reason MF looks smaller than Magnum is the crest of the lift hills. MF's crest has a more parabolic curve to it. On the other hand, Magnum's hill looks more pointed, making the crest look farther away from you.
It's the same way Disney made his second story windows smaller to make his buildings look taller.
I am sorry but Magnum looks shorter than the force

That was my first impression when I drove out to the park too. It is a weird illusion. Interesting how geometry can fool the eye.
It also could be the difference in the structure of the hills. How the MF's structure is made up of seprate large structures and, how Magnums is made up as on small structure.

The main reason that MF looks smaller is the angle of the lifts. We are all used to seeing 30 degree lifts, MF is a 45 degree lift, I think that makes a big difference.

I totally agree with Dan. It's the angle of the lift hill. My first trip to CP this year will be in about a week. I will finally get to see it in person. But, honestly, from photos it doesn't look much bigger than Magnum. I'm sure I'll think differently when I see it in person.
The problem is, is that the photos don't do MF any justice whatsoever. I knew that MF's track was big, but it didn't sink in until I saw it up close and personal.

Mean Streak: Fast and Furious,
the only angle i've seen where it does look larger than magnum is from the frontier trail north of the tunnel and over by snake river falls. but even when you are right next to it on the perimeter road, it doesn't look that big. it's really weird.
It doesn't look that tall from the CP&LE RR, but when your in line, and you're on the ramp by the unload station it sure looks 310 feet tall. It also looks 310 feet tall when you're standing at the base of the lift. :) :)
I disagree. It only looks tall to me when you're driving up toward the penninsula. It doesn't look like much when you're in line. It's a WHOLE different story at the top of that thing tho!

Yeah, I didn't think it looked that big when I first saw it in person either. I remember getting a big scare over the height of Magnum when that first opened. I think a lot of has to do with looking at the construction pictures and talking about it for so long. I kind of got used to it before I saw it.
Maybe it doesn't look so big because since July 22, 1999, we have been discussing every little thing about it. We know so much, it just doesn't intimidate us as much as Magnum did in '89 when it opened.

i think from the top lookin down theres a slight difference ,hehe
RockDown2G - I agree with you totally. The first time I went to CP this year and we were driving towards the point, the very first view of the park we got was all MF. It really stood out. It stayed like that all the way to the park - MF just dominated everything - Magnum just looked like a tiny hill to another coaster. Maybe this is because I come from the east where MF is closer than Magnum, but it is really amazing. When you are waiting in line, I agree that it doesn't look as tall as its hyped up to be, but then when you get to the top that thought flies away.
