I'd rather ditch the park in Anaheim, and make a visit a few miles away to Buena Park, and then about 50 miles north to Valencia.

What on Earth are you talking about?
I suspect the IMAX refers to Soarin'. Not sure about the miniature train track.
"Why has CP survived as long as it has?"
Because Dick Kinzel has only been CEO since the late eighties!
I love both Disney and CP alike. But, for totally different reasons. Disney is a THEME park, and CP is an AMUSEMENT park. Disney continues to amaze me with their attention to detail and the lengths they go through to immerse you in a different setting. Walt's original intent was to have guests "live the movies" he created. I was an Imagineer for a little while during school, so I know the lengths they go through to accomplish this. Expedition Everest cost as much as it did because of the theming, not the actual coaster.
But, even though I live in South Florida (and work in the Caribbean), I still make the pilgrimage to Sandusky every summer. You can't beat the thrills at CP. Plus, I grew up there, so its full of memories. I think CP has lasted as long as it has for that reason too. Memories and tradition are powerful things. I wish it was August already so I could be at the Point. The smells, sounds, sights, and rides all do it for me. Basically, its the same as at Disney for me. I grew up going every year with my family. So, it wouldn't be the same to miss a year without it. :)
The families that have made it a tradition to go there year after year are a big part of the park's survival. My family has been going most every year for generations. Since before the first coaster was built on point in fact. I myself have only missed two seasons of my 17 possible, 2000 and 2002, mainly because my cousins from Florida came up at the wrong times for us those years, so I wasn't able to go with them. I still remember when I was little and Magnum and Mean Streak had outrageous lines, and I thought people were dying on Magnum from the way they were screaming.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
I have been to WDW, Disneyland, and Universal Studios in Orlando and Hollywood. After being a pretty major Disney fan for several years, I have to say that the whole Universal experience appeals more to me. The Citywalks at each location are fantastic, especially in Hollywood.
Coaster Count: 147
wow...been a while since I could get back here to the site and check on the thread. I'm amazed at the responses! Anyway, I was referring to "Soarin'" at Epcot(.the sideways IMAX screen). I just got back from a Monday trip to Universal. I had gotten a coupon for free entry for myself with up to six others for $35 apiece..one day both parks. They have this GREAT food deal now.You can spend $20 and eat all day at three locations(drinks not included but an ET glass bought at MIB for $4 can get you refills all day for $1.39). Good deals can bring you back to a park!! I rode Living Mummy for the first time(awesome!) and a first time for Shrek 4D also. Got in my usual Doom ride and one Spiderman. Finished with two Hulks. The last was front car, five minute wait. In the line to Hulk the first time though,I met a lady and her son from Cleveland who were lifelong Cedar Point goers. Cedar does have a lot of tradition. She just glowed over it as did the 10 year old. I cannot wait for this first trip In July! Her favorite ride was Millenium by the way.
