Why doesn't WT brake forward??

I hate being braked when travelling backward, pushes my head & stomach in. Nearly threw up. A guy threw up cos of that.

Hate reverse braking on Vekoma Boomerangs. Once I was on the only one in the train & it stopped on a dime. Ohhh, threw up, lol.

Why can't WT brake forward??

Because the station is on the back end of the ride.

And I never had a problem with this. I much rather be pushed into my seat than pushed into the restraint.

because it'd throw you forward in your seat. It makes sense why it brakes going backwards.

I've never heard of someone getting sick from braking backwards...that's quite different. It pushes your body in to the seat just like the launch.

I have a very similar problem with WT and the Boomerangs. I think the sensation of stopping in reverse is not one often felt, therfore it has a weird effect on some people. Personally I would love to see it stop forward, but becasue of ride layout that cannot happen.

I like the feeling of braking backwards, most likely just because it is out of the ordinary.

I just wish it could be longer.

Based on the location of the brakes, compared to the station, it's much easier to slow the ride with the brakes going backwards and completely stop it in the station than it is to stop the train going forwards completely and then reverse the direction the train is traveling.

It could be stopped forwards, it would just ruin the whole ending of the ride, not to mention hurt. Going 72mph screaming through the station then plowing into the magnetic brakes at 72mph, not fun. The last pass forward lets the train begin to slow down so that its not such a hard stop, which it isnt when your braking. I love that part.

I love Wicked Twister the way it is and always will. WT does have the ability to have a longer cycle but it would slow capacity a lot, not to mention putting much more strain on the transformers.

They actually had to reprogram the sequence because it was overheating the inverters, motors, and transformer.

I know thats why Wicked Twister had minimal downtime this season.

Was it the actual "firing" sequence or was it the power output sequence?

Both I believe

Mostly changing around and reducing the total power output. There might have been some changes to reduce firing the drives without a reaction plate present. The LIMs will basically be a short without the reactance.

I have to say Wicked Twister is the only coaster that will give me a slight motion sickness feeling. And it is because of the stop. I think it just has a weird effect on some people, I just either pop a dramamine an hour before I ride, or try my other technique. When the ride goes to break I breathe in deeply till its stopped completely. Somehow that helps!

I always wondered why the downtime was so lengthly and the 2004 halloweekends crew for WT was doing Demon Drop and Carosel until they could do whatever for Wicked Twister. Thats okay i seriously had a fun time working the Midway carosel! I really don't know why, but I never actually had to do Demon drop at all, everyone just rotated around me lol! I still completed the walk up to the top of the Dem Drop, but hey it was really fun anyway

I believe that stopping backwards is considered better for any kind of vehicle. Instead of being thrown forward into the OTSR/Lap bar/Seat belt/etc. and being held back by whatever minimal contact your body makes with it, you are instead pushed back into the seat where your whole back can absorb the stop.

That said, I know plenty of people who get motion sick from traveling backwards. It just happens to be safer in general.
