Why do you like Cedar Point?

Force00's avatar

With it being almost 90 Days till Opening Day I've been thinking about my love for Cedar Point which started back in 2007 which for many people is not very long. In 2007 I went to the park twice, the second time riding the Dragster for my first time. This past season was when I had my season pass for the first time and ended up going 10 times. All of which I never got tired of going to the park, riding the rides and having a great time. It just never got tireing to me. When I tell other people that I went 10 times this past year they always ask "Didn't you get bored of the place?" and I always say "No". Then there is this year, I've been already looking at pictures of the park and checking the webcam every so often. This brings me to my question. Why do you like the park? Is it the endless rides, the people watching or something else. Espically for the people that have been going to the park for 10 or more years.

Oh my, you sound just like me! ha. I was deathly afraid of coasters until a few years back. I've been going to CP since I was little (My uncle helped consruct Raptor) but I never rode anything other than wooden coasters. One year my friend and I went and he made me ride Raptor and after that I was hooked. I bought a season pass the next season and that's how it has been the past few years. Whenever I go with friends they tend to get tired and bored around 6pm, but I can never get bored there. Even times like this (dead of winter) I have incredible urges to go

I'm hooked! Last year was the first year I went alone and had a great time. Wife and both sons had plans, so off I went. Twice a year we stay at campers village for the weekend and have a great late time. I work on Saturdays, so I have to get up at 2 A.M. and drive back to Cleveland, but get back to the park by noon! We've had season passes for about 6 years now, and buy our grandsons passes every year for Christmas. Last year we started using Soak City on hot days and went back into the park around 4. Really refreshed and ready for a long night of rides and cheese-on-a stick. Halloweekends are wild, with the trailer only 5 minutes away at midnight! CAN'T WAIT!

That almost sounds like me myself, the first time I was in the park was in the fall of 2004 and I had an amazing time. I lived in Ohio all my life and I am 20 now, and never went to Cedar Point, I have heard of it just never been there. I mainly only went to Geauga Lake. But the first time I was at CP I could not ride Millenium, or Dragster due to the Seat Belts but i did not let that spoil my fun. I got A season pass the folllowing year and went 10 times. For me it was the love of the rides, and it never got old. Then I satarted looking at the history of the park on here and a couple of other websites and it was truely amazing.

Now 4 1/2 years later I will be going on my 3rd season of working in the park and the only differance of then and now, Instead of going to the park to get a way from home, I go home to get away from the park.

Witches Wheel has a 54 inch height requirement, I don't care if your child rode Dragster, Magnum or, Millenium, they are not tall enough for this one!

Save The Big Dipper!

I grew up with the park. When my mother was pregnant she would always go to the park with my father to walk around and relax. Then after I was born they would go to the park so my mother could work off some of the baby fat. Until we moved to Virginia we had season passes every year. I got to watch all the bigger rides we love today get built.

To me Cedar Point is just home, my family is there, and all my friends. Getting to work there this summer just feels like a homecoming after 6 years in Virginia.

Here is my story,
My Mom, Dad, Sister, and I had taken a family vacation to Sea-World and Geauga Lake about 12 years ago. I was young then. Any ways on the way home my parents decided to make a detour to Cedar Point. My first ride ever was on Blue Streak with my father. I will never forget that day. It was a beautiful hot sunny summer day. That was the day I fell in love with Cedar Point. My second trip was through my school when i was in the 8th grade. That was when i was able to experience Magnum, and Gemeni. I was scared to go upside down for some reason. My third trip was with my Mom, Dad, and my best freind at the time. My best friend was the one who made me ride Raptor and that was if for me. I was a coaster freak from that day on. I then started going every now and then with my friends dad, Then just a couple years ago i bought a season pass. Best decession i ever made because i have gotten one every year since then. Just two years ago i had gone 22 times. last year not so many because of gas prices and i met my wife to be. This year will be diffrent though. I plan to go alot this year. and I cant WAIT!!!

Ripcord, rides, girls.

Let's Get Weird.

Well it is a thrill to go on a roller coaster, but the same coasters do get boring. So it is more or less I like thrill rides.

Probably explains my fascination with skiing and wakeboarding also.

Skiing honestly is taking the cake away from CP. For $109 I can ski at 29 ski locations in Michigan 1 time. This includes, Mt Bohemia, Nubs Nob, Boyne Highlands, Schuss Mountain, Crystal, Caberfae, and more.

I enjoy getting exposed to new trails, terrain, and runs.

CP used to do this for me, but the fire is gone. Why can't you build a drop coaster or a euro-fighter?

^ I don't think I'll ever get bored of the coasters at CP. I do elsewhere, but not there. I'm really close to Holiday World and although the Voyage is a great ride, I'm bored after 2 or 3 times on it. But I could ride MF, Raptor and most of the others for hours on end without getting tired, so I have to say it's simply the coasters for me.

Raptor maybe in the very front right seat.

I've spent quite a bit of time riding front, back, and middle of all the coasters at CP, and switching spots is about the only thing that gets me off anymore....

I used to ride coasters close to the front...now its all about switching it up.

Maverick and MF are about the only coasters smooth enough for me to ride non stop.

Hey here's a way to get me to come to the point. Lets have a "Who can ride Maverick longest playoff". Where we have contestants see how long they can ride the ride non stop without getting sick until we have the best of the best and none of the rest. Then...I don't know what we do with them. Make them chug a half gallon of milk and than ride Maverick.......

Make that...chocolate milk

^That would be very fun, yet very nauseating. I've never gotten sick on a roller coaster, but I'd say 5+ times nonstop and it hit me

Reasons why I like cedar point:

- the amazing coasters

- the wild flat rides

- Challenge park

- riding at night

- the hotel breakers, staying there 2 times, and just hanging out in there

- the beach

- people watching, picking on the annoying cute girls that are there every now and then

- meeting people and seeing pointbuzzers there

- my friend working there and introducing me to her employee friends

- going "behind the scenes" with my friend

- riding rides during fireworks, beach with fireworks

- soak city

- restaurants, not the $$ park food, the sit down places!!

- going with my grandma and her reaction to disaster transport!

- Halloweekends, and being in the parade in 08!

-stampeding into the park during ERT running of the bulls!

- going with my boyfriend many times

Think that's just about everything.....

I have a lot of memories as a kid going to Cedar Point with my mom. My very first rollercoaster was the CorkScrew and up until recently I didn't ride it because I thought I was on the list of people who couldn't because of their weight, but I tried it last year and I fit just fine (not sure why it's listed of people of exceptional size).

It seems like each year I'm becoming more and more brave to get on different things. This year I'm hoping to ride MaxAir for the first time, I rode Skyhawk for the first time last year and I love it!

I'm still pretty overwieght so I doubt if I'll fit on Millie or TTD. Possibly I might be brave enough to go on Magnum, this will be my 3rd year with a season pass. The first year I was even afraid to try Gemini, now I'll go on almost anything I can, (I've also yet to try the Power Tower).

I go to Cedar Point for the adrenaline rush, all the walking that you need to do at the park makes it easier for me to lose more weight. And Snoopy is a timeless classic. I never get tired of going to Cedar Point and the staff is terrific :)

During Millenium Mania I had 23 Raptor rerides and in all these years thats the only time I felt the possibility of hurling reriding my Raptor. The bad thing would have been had I hurled, the crew would have made me clean it up since I was on their crew that year! :)

In '04 a bunch of my CP buds got me on the Tilt a Whirl and I will NEVER EVER step foot on that ride again-they were determined to make me sick and came close.

As for the ? of why I like CP-too many reasons to get into. I have so many memories over the years, things that to this day still make me laugh. Every season something else happens and another memory is added.
My love for the park goes beyond just riding the rides, I am one of those CP freaks. If my truck, (a moving CP billboard) my license plates, my horses names (Get to the Point and Maverick) the fact that I worked on Raptor for 3 years earning $10.00/less an hour then I made at my real job dont prove my love for CP, then I would think all the CP and Raptor tattoos pretty much seals it.

Of course you will see me at KI alot more this year than CP! Sorry Raptor but Diamondback is only 1.25 hours from me! :)
I have always loved KI - I had been going to KI since the 80's-love it more now since I don't feel like a traitor anymore!!!

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

The reason I love Cedarpoint so much mainly is there is so much variety. You can do 17 coasters, not one really alike. Then there is alot of shows, a beach, and a variety of food to eat. Plus the staff is the friendliest ,who want to talk to you and are always having a good time, so you have a good time to.

I WILL ALWAYS KICK THE SKY.

Ok, this is definately an open-ended question that I have to think about. I remember going every other year when I was younger. Riding all the rides I could were fun. I think I was a little ride warrior at the time. The rides and coasters are the first things that I remember loving about the park.

Also, the entertainment the park has is great! The first show I can truly say that I liked was Rock 'n Country. 2007's Monsters Rock! was great as well. This past year, I branced out and saw the main three shows (in Palace, Centennial and Red Garter). Nights of Darkness was another good show and I liked the set.

While these are just two reasons, there are many reasons I love Cedar Point. I just don't want to write a novel post. The atmosphere is amazing and just makes me feel happy. Walking around and people watching is interesting at times too. I almost forgot, I love Dippin Dots! I try to get them each time, especially in summer.

Ryan, I am dissapointed in you. I thought you would be a lifer like the rest of us. :)

I honestly do not think I could ever get bored of Cedar Point. I remember my first time to CP was in 9th grade. I got hooked instantly. Of course I thought I was crazy, until I luckily found Guide to the Point. :)

I remember after that, everything about that trip reminded me of Cedar Point. From the movie that we watched on the bus ride there, "Back to the Future." Or the songs that were played on the radio. Train's "Drops of Jupiter" still remind me of Cedar Point to this day.

Memorial day weekend I taped "Thrills, Chills, and Spills on the Discovery Channel." That was the year that "World's Largest Amusement Park" was aired. I remember seeing "Raptor" Jo and "Magnum" Dan on the show. I thought it was the coolest thing that I knew of them from this forum.

I probably watched that tape at least once a day. Every commercial during that show reminded me of Cedar Point. Even if it had nothing to do with CP. Just for the fact that they were aired in between the shows reminded me of it. Especially the Lowes and Claritin commercials.

Not to mention the Cedar Point commercials themselves. I would drop whatever I was doing and run to the tv when I would hear, "You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point, Hold on!" No other Cedar Point commercial can live up to that one. ;)

Then there was my Cedar Point park maps. I looked at those every night before I went to bed. Retracing my tracks from that amazing day. I had only ridden ID, DT, Gemini, Magnum, and MS (in that order). But that was all it took.

Cedar Point was the only thing I talked about that summer. It was the only thing that I thought about. I think I was definately starting to annoy my family. So finally we went back for Halloweekends.

I bought every post card and poster that I could. That is where my Cedar Point shrine began. Since then it has been boxed up in between moves from here to there. But it took up my entire bedroom for about 3 or 4 years.

I don't really know what it was that did it for me. I know that I felt extrememly accomplished after I had ridden Magnum. It was and still is my favorite coaster. I carried that post card around, as well as my onride photo key chain. And showed anyone who would take 2 seconds to listen.

All I know is that something happened that day back in 9th grade that got me addicted. And my love for Cedar Point will never fade away. It is a wierd part of me that people will have to get used to.

Here's a question. Does anyone elses friends think that they are crazy? Because mine sure do. My closest friends are pretty used to my obsession, now. But they used to get upset at me when I would visit GTTP. And when new friends find out about how much I love Cedar Point, and that I visit a forum for it...I tend to get some pretty wierd looks. lol.

"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"

I've been going to Cedar Point since I was 8. I remember seeing Magnum getting stuck on the hill when it first opened in 89'. Ever since I was able to drive, I'd hit Cedar Point a few times a summer. But it was not till 4 years ago when I truly became addicted to everything coaster-wise and started to go to CP at least 15 times a season. Now, all I talk about is CP..especially during the off-season when I go through the destitude lack of coaster-riding.

My friends also think I'm weird going to CP all the time. My close friends know my addiction, but still think I'm weird, but I don't care. CP is my home away from home. I go by myself, with friends, go for half-days..whatever. If I'm having a crappy day, CP comes to the rescue.

I will never forget taping that show. Had to leave Columbus at 3:30am to get to CP in time for taping. Had to do that 2 days in a row cause the 1st day Discovery had technical difficulties. Had all of Maggie's stats written on my thigh to remember her stats. I know I said a couple of stupid ride stats during the actual interview. I almost slipped and said they call me "Raptor Jo" and backpeddled and said "Cedar Point Jo" (didnt dare say "Magnum Jo" - that title belonged to Dan!) I about died when they called me Cedar Point Jo on the actual show. I know most viewers were wondering why if I liked Maggie so much didnt I have a Maggie tat.

I've done 2 more Discovery shows and 2 National Geographic shows over the years, all of which required the driving up there well before the crack of dawn. Fun stuff! :)

All my closest friends, family and co workers all know my OCD with CP and one look at my vehicles, assorted CP wear and my tats, I am sure total strangers do too. 1/2 of my family room is nothing but a CP and GL :( shrine. I'm not half as bad as I used to be (getting old?) but if I hear any word remotely close to, cedar, point, or raptor I always listen in. I have always been thankful for my horses and riding to keep me busy during the off season or I would go ballistic waiting for OD.

CP is my drug of choice, plain and simple.

Jo

ha yeah my friends always give me a hard time, they like coasters as well, but they aren't obsessed. Right now I'm a senior in HS as well as a freshman in college, but everyday in high school government we talk about a current event for extra credit and mine always involves CP, if nothing is going on then it is how long until it opens.
