Who needs Bridge?

I don't get it, help me understand whats going on here. Whats with all of the old guys riding Dragster. I'm not talking about guys like Tim. I am talking about guys that make Old Timer Tim look young.

The guy from Florida got 90 something rides in a few weeks. You got old guys getting to the Magnum gate more than an hour before the park opens and then they RUN to the ride.

I have never seen so many older people riding one ride before. The totaly number of old guys I saw riding Dragster this past weekend probably never equaled the total of older people I saw riding Magnum over the past 7 seasons.

If I sold life insurance I would set up a desk right next to the entrance of the ride.

Wait, I've seen 80 year olds that are healthier then 35 year old people. I don't think it's fair to say that someone that is older doesn't have the right to ride rides.

I don't think we will be seeing any roller coasters over 3,280 feet anytime in the next 100 years. Sorry, but that's absolutely ridiculous.

I could be wrong however...

I didn't say anything about rights to ride. I was just making an observation that a lot of old people ride Dragster.

OMG, calm down, I have no problem with old people riding, I was just making an observation.

i know EXACTLY what Dan was trying to say...

i work in an Assisted Living home and let me tell you, these old people are NUTS!!! they play poker and drink beer three nights a week...one of my teenaged waiters owes one of them 20 bucks!

we had a party last weekend and some of them were sucking the helium out of the balloons!!

it doesnt surprise me one bit that older folk are wanting to ride Dragster..

plus, think about it...no lift hill in the traditional sense...over before you know it...maybe they are all figuring its not as a SUSTAINED intensity as oh, say, MF or Magnum.

i can see the appeal....

it aint the size of the arrow, its what you do with the bow....

There probobly won't be anything that big ever seeing the negitve effects of building bigger such as insane cost. Then again a 420 foot coaster was likely to be thought of as absolutely ridiculous 20 years ago.

Haha, i think we all need to re-read and edit statements so everyone can understand. I really dont care who rides, just as long as they dont pose a risk to my safety, i hope they enjoy they ride....i mean, i dont want dentures or a toupee coming at me at 120 mph... i dont know about some of you.

Look at it this way. "old" people, who spent years being responsible wives/husbands/parents and likely worked for 40-50 years, finally retire. Now they have the TIME to really enjoy life again. What better way to get an adrenaline rush than riding a 420 foot coaster??

Just because people get old, doesn't mean they stop living. I can tell you that *I* plan to be riding coasters well into my 70's.

Dan, let me throw out another possible explanation, since I am an ol head myself. The reason you saw so few old timers on Magnum over the last 7 years was due to all the young people riding the ride (the old timers were there in the same numbers, just not as visible).

With TTD, maybe the younger riders just arent ready for the extreme height and speed, and stick with the slower more traditional type coasters (MF and Magnum).

Personally, I find your observation very strange and surprising. I am visiting the point for the first time this year this weekend (from Boston), so I plan on paying close attention to who is in line.

Tom

I, too, have noticed a decent number of the 65+ set riding TTD. I also see them riding MF. They tend to ride Magnum in lower numbers. I happen to think that the older folks tend to be SMARTER folks. TTD and MF are extremely SMOOOOOOTH. Magnum, Mean Streak and the Blue Streak are much rougher rides. As we get older, a sore back tends to take a long time to get better. TTD and MF are so smooth that the body does not get beat up. Just my observation...

You will NOT see me sitting down watching people ride the super rollie coaster that comes out 65 years later. They have a right to ride! WE all do, unless we break rules or not tall/too tall/ etc.
I think when you get older, you kinda lose your sense of fear. My grandmother is in her 80's and had only ridden small carnival rides when she came to visit me at Cedar Point in 2001. I was working on DT, and she rode that, and LOVED it, so I took her on the Iron Dragon and Wild Cat. Then, she looked over to the Millenium like a kid in a candy shop and said "That one next!" My mom put her foot down on that one, and grandma and grandpa rode the train while dad and I rode MF.

Haha....awww that is the cutest story Vanessa. Your parents should have let her ride Millenium; actually maybe it wasn't a good idea.

I had something very similar happen. My grandma and grandpa went to CP with our family several years ago (my grandma was about 75). My grandpa was the cautious one talking about how these rides would probably kill you with blood pressure jumps and etc. My grandma was just the opposite...she wanted to ride everything, but my grandpa wouldn't let her. Finally, my grandpa went to the bathroom and my grandma said "Let's go ride that one! (Mean Streak)" We told her it was way too rough, so she settled for Gemini. I will NEVER forget my grandma flexing her muscle at my grandpa as she walked off of Gemini. He had just realized she rode it, and he was shocked. It was just hillarious...

Nirto at Six Flags Great Adventure is over 5,000 ft long, 3,280 ft isnt really anything.

I agree with you Dan. I thought I was the only person who noticed the amount of 70+ year olds riding Dragster. A guy was there when i was getting my photo yesterday at Dragster, the photo guys new him, said he had 82 rides this year, going for 100. He was definitely over 70, kidna strange but I hope when I'm older,I want to ride still too!
There is a season pass holder that comes to ride Dragster every weekend. This man is well into his 80's, always rides front seat, and usually has a flack on him. He is a sweetheart and the whole crew knows him. Its not odd for us to see a lot of older people wanting to come and ride- they want to have fun too.

Ah yes the flask guy. It's nice to watch him snake his way through the line. He even offered me candy to try to cut through the line and ride with me. Um, no thank you.
