The first time I rode it was about a month after it opened. Every year my parents would let me take a day off of school and go to Cedar Point. The day we went it was a fairly cool day and the top half of the lift hill was OBSCURED BY FOG! Never experienced like that before or since. I knew it was high (for the time) but not being able to actually see it made it even more exciting.
I was only 8 when I rode the Magnum for the 1st time. My friend and were the first 2 to wait, and to ride on front seats for the public. We had a great time. We also were the 1st 2 on the Mean Streak to; 1991.
I rode Magnum in 1989 when I was four and a half. No big deal really. :)
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I remember seeing the old upstops inplace before the upstop wheels.
I still like this ride no matter what is said about it. It is what paved the way for what we have now.

This is definetely interesting nostalgic talk. I remember my first ride on Magnum is 1995 the first time i ever went to Cp. It was my favorite ride and the ride i always wanted to ride last.
My first ride was in 2001, can not remember much about it but I rode it the first and second day. My best rides would have to be the past July, I pulled my seat belt tight and going over the bunny hill's my legs were fine, really enjoyed it! :)

I agree, it is pretty awesome to think that after 21 years at the park, it has a higher ridership than Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster, Millennium Force, or any ride at the park (exception of Gemini some years).
Don't forget the train. I believe CP&LE still delivers the most rides in a season. No lap bars, no seat belts, open-sided seats. And the transitions are much smoother.... ;)

Magnum rules alright....it rules my migraines. :)
It's a good thing it's a great ride or those aforementioned migraines would ruin it's popularity with me.

Magnum is and remains my favorite ride at Cedar Point. Don't get me wrong, as I think Millennium Force and Maverick and TTD and Raptor and and and.... They all offer a bit more adrenaline, elements, speed etc..
Magnum is the one ride in the park that I can really enjoy and take in the fun the ride has to offer. i always sit in the second or front row and its not nearly as "jarring' as some make it out to be.
Magnum, in my opinion, is the crown jewel of Cedar Point.
Coasters like MF and Maverick give amazing rides, but Magnum is still the special one. After it was built, larger and faster coasters became routine. I'll never forget seeing that huge 205ft hill for the first time aproaching the park, and was blown away how much bigger it was from everything else there, especially Gemini.
I've been to Cedar Point since I was 7 and from as far as I remember I would ride everything. When the Magnum came out in 89 I remember being in line scared to death at 9. The speaker was talking about it and all its stats and the hill looked gigantic.
I remember a condom being ballooned up and thrown around and everybody was bouncing it and laughing. I was going to hit it but my mom is all "Don't touch that you'll get a disease!". It was evening, and an awesome experience even though I chickened out and walked right across the magnum car and decided not to at the last second.
Still, when I conquered it the next year it made it all the sweeter.
I haven't been scared of anything since, and probably never will be.
Magnum: The only thrill ride that ever beat me. I wish I could feel that fear again.
The key to an enjoyable Magnum ride (less bunny hill pain) is to tighten the seat belt down as much as humanly possible, and leave your lap bar one click loose. The seatbelt is much less painful pulling down on you than the lap bar wrenching down on your quadraceps.
Having said that, hands down, my favorite ride...ever.
Magnum is the coolest ride to go on at night. One 4th of July I went on it a few times with my friend, and it took about 6 minutes from entering the queues to getting off the ride. I love seeing all the trees at night, and it gets really dark when it snakes around areas that are obscured by light.
The magnum was my first big ride, and really started my coaster fanaticism. The first time I went on it it was back in '02, I believe, because I think the Wicked Twister was brand new. But I was so terrified, that I ducked in my seat the entire hill up. And that hill lasts a lifetime! I love it! After going down that hill though, man...talk about nostalgia.

Is there a site that shows what the ridership is at the park or do you know because you work there?
