I am planning a vacation for next summer. We live in Middle Tennessee. We usually do vacation in late July. Plan to stay for 4 days at least.
1. Are there other things good to do in the area? Suggestions please.
2. Where is the best place to stay? Suggestions...
We have never been to Cedarpoint or this area.
Thanks
It's really hard to predict crowd levels at Cedar Point for any given day, week, or month. It is safe to say, however, that the crowds will be significantly higher during the middle summer months (especially early to mid July). I don't think they get any better throughout August either. Plan to deal with heavy crowds during the summer.
(1) I think you really have to get out of the area to find more fun and exciting things to do. Besides the beach areas and the occasional golf course (if you're into that), there isn't much to do in Sandusky.
(2) Best place to stay? I haven't gone wrong at Hotel Breakers, but that happens to be the only place I have ever stayed.
I hope I helped somewhat. Have a good time on your upcoming trip!

There is no bad time to visit Cedar Point. As you would expect, crowds tend to peak in July and early August. But with 4 days, you'd have to plenty of time to see and do everything. This link may help as well.
1. The Lake Erie Islands stand out. Check out http://www.buckeyenorth.com for more ideas about the Sandusky area. Go a little further out and you'll discover much to do in Cleveland as well.
2. The best place to stay is at a Cedar Point resort. You're right at the park and there are plenty of perks.
Last week of August is my recommendation. Short lines, weather is still nice, kids are in school, and the summer is winding down. Lighthouse Point is my favourite place to stay.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
My recommendation is the last Sunday of Halloweekends. The park is completely dead. Walk-on everything except TTD or MF which may be 10 minutes. Stay at Hotel Breakers. Great choice. Get to overlook the park. Get in early and stay later for the park.

No. Closing day is always packed. Busy. Wall to Wall people. Stay far far far away.. (please?)
Are you serious? I was there last year. Talk about dead. I went on Raptor like 10 times. MF about 20 tiems and TTD about 14 times. Trust me man. It was not packed. The weather was like 50 degrees with some wind, not much, and it was partly cloudy.
He was joking...but i doubt thats true I HATE Six Flags. I got on Dragster twice and MF about 4-5 times, the wait for Dragster was 45 minutes-hour, however MF's line was shorter.
Well does it matter he is planning to stay for 4 days........ Not 1............

101 on Magnum and counting...
Walt gave you some good info. You should know that Cleveland is about an hour's drive, and depending upon your group's age(s), the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is cool. Right by that is the big, hands-on science museum (good for all ages). The Zoo is also good. Nearer to Cedar Point is a cave which isn't all tricked up (still kinda natural inside) with tours, plus there is a carousel museum in Sandusky. The Lake Erie Islands are close by; different islands have different orientations (Put-in-Bay is party; Kelley's island is more scenic and historic). Also, there are wineries in the Firelands region, nearby. I hope you have a wonderful trip!
