Wheel covers?

Since when does WT have wheel covers? I went to the CP page and there on the "changing picture thingie was a close up of a WT train and it had the covers.

the WT had the wheel covers during its first days for running and media day....I guess when the WT started having its problems they took them off...They probably need to check the wheels everytime and i guess its a hassle taking them off all the time...so they just keep them off

From what I understand, the Department of Agriculture told us (SFWoA) that the covers needed to stay off, due to the nature of the ride. I'm sure they said the exact same thing to Cedar Point.

Hehe you can see the leaning fence in this picture. Im wondering how long those are going to last with every person bouncing on them.

I could be wrong here but I do not recall the wheel covers being on WT on Media Day. As a matter of fact I didn't see wheel covers on WT when it was still in its crate covered by tarp in January either. I do believe they put them on for the commercial shooting in April. With all the mechanical probs WT seems blessed with it is/was probably easier for them to keep them off. I can' t imagine them being told to keep them off due to the nature of the ride. Raptor's wheel covers are on and have always been on, certainly the intensity of Raptor isn't any less than WT, to me it would be more. But I'm no Monty, just my personal opinion, that's all! ;)

My daughter asks this every time we are there.

The problem I see is this is yet another prototype for this company and there will be glitches to work out until the ride is able to be run daily without problems. If it were your park would you have the ride adjusted daily and tweaked so that it would minimize the problems? The easiest way to inspect everything is to keep it accessable. I really don't foresee problems going into next year. It is it's first year. Prototype, many many computer systems controlling it. That's just too much to not make the ride accessable for maintenance.

I don't buy this "Easy Access" junk. Why do you need easy access to the wheels? It's not like they replace the wheels everyday...

Wheels go bad all the time. Probably close to 50% of the days, Magnum goes down for a wheel change - sometimes more than once. It only takes 10 minutes and has taken as little as 3 when "Maintenance Jim" feels like it! ;) So while you are correct in saying that not ALL wheels get changed everyday, they need to be constantly inspected and changed out as needed and that is most likely easier with the covers off.
