What's up with the colors lately?

Wha has happened to the color schemes at Cedar Point? Many of the color choices as of late have been aweful. Here are a few of my rants...

1. Sky Ride Stations: Swiss Chalet style buildings painted blue looks so cheap! These need to be returned to their original colors

2. Maverick...Asside from the fact that CP did not need another red coaster, This one should have been true rust color or copper color ala Wildfire at Silver Dollar City to fit with the frontier theme. The rest of the theming on this coaster is fabulous, but the red track stands out too much.

3. Iron Dragon...need I say more?

4. Top Thrill Dragster...ok, this one isn't so bad, but this coaster would have looked so much better with yellow supports and BLACK or Grey Track...Hello!??? How many red drag strips are there out there? Plus, the alternating white and black would have looked awsome with the yellow supports and reinforce the racing theme.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that a certain amount of gaudiness is needed and expected at an amusement park, but some things could be done more tastefully. I guess what they say is true about CP's biggest fans are also their biggest critics.

I seem to recall reading somewhere, maybe here, that bright colors encourage one's mind to spend money.

It sounds like something from preshcool. but bright colors are happier colors!

Yes, why do you think that McDonalds is red and yellow? Coincidence, i think not... and wendys for that matter.

The alternating Red and White wasn't supposed to emulate a drag track, but rather the rumble strips found on race-tracks.

After working in a paint store for some time, there are colors that are better to fade resistance. Hence why TTD looks so bad, yellow always fades when outside b\c of the pigments used to turn it that color. So that could be some of the reason for so many reds, and the obnoxious colors, they prevent fading when they are a more basic color.

I heard somewhere that the alternating red and white helps to make the sensation of the takeoff seem more intense.

Correct; it makes you feel as though you are going faster.

I don't think any of Cedar Point's color schemes are "aweful", but some may be better then others and as for Maverick's track it's one of the best colors they could have gotten for that coaster!

They need a black coaster! :)

Let's Get Weird.

Um.... Black? Why black?

The group of people I go up with often refer to ID as Ugly Dragon. :) Really, IMO, it's the only coaster in the park that actually has a bad color scheme, and that's only because the track sticks out like an ugly sore thumb through the trees (and doesn't match its trains at all). Maverick looks fine the way it does, even though the rustic track look would have gone along with the theming a little better.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

It is true that yellow fades worse than most other colors. For example, cars that are painted yellow have a special clearcoat (that usually costs extra!...darnit!!) that keeps the paint from fading as quickly.

Wonder if when the time comes to paint dragster, will that option be considered? I'm sure it would cost more (it would can for another coat after the first one dried), but with as much as it will cost to paint it anyway, I think I would consider doing anything that would make the color last longer.

Just an idea...

Nick

I do think Iron Dragon looks pretty hideous, but the colors fit the name. Red and orange are colors that often come to mind when thinking of a dragon.
If it was painted more earthy colors to fit in the its surroundings, then people would cause a stir saying things like, "why is it called Iron Dragon?"

Because they dont have one.

Also my favorite color is black. I wasnt being serious when I said that.

I like the blue SkyRide stations. Makes them look more... fun I guess you would say.

Iron Dragon is the one I don't like. The supports need to become gray again.

Isn't Cedar Creek Mine Ride black?

OMG...........color of track, and I thought I was layless by wanting to know when the new web cams would be up :).

Who decides these colors anyway? The maverick red makes absolutely no sense at all. Just when you think Cedar Point may get their theming figured out they throw a red track in the middle of a frontier town and call it Maverick.

On second thought, maybe thats why its called Maverick because the color red in the middle of a frontier town is about as maverick as you get. I agree that the rest of the theming is great but come on..... rustic, black or copper would have been so much better.
