Even the convenience of staying on-Point does not justify marking up at 45.00/night room to $165.00./night. that's overkill. so am i to assume that the pics accurately reflect the state of the rooms on-Point?
If you are looking for bigger rooms and such, Sandcastle's standards rooms are double. They come with 2 queen beds in the sleeping room, One sofa bed, a fridge, balcony or patio, and I think 2 TV'. It's about the same price as your standard single room in Breakers east or towers. The only downfall is it's location, kind of far away from the gates.
To get an idea of the price of convenience for staying on point, Breakers Express right now is about $100 cheaper than Breakers east or Towers standard room and the rooms are basically the same.

Our family has been visiting CP for vacation for over 15 years, and we've found that the Breakers is ultimate if you want to be right in the middle of the action. Sand Castle tends to be more isolated and provides less of that magical CP vacation experience.
As Jeff said, you're paying for convenience of staying on Point. Breakers will provide the greatest convenience; closest proximity to Soak City, Challenge Park, and the Park entrances; a host of restaurants; and a beautiful beach right outside your window. Really, there are too many things to list that make staying there a great experience and a great value.
Now for room choices...Typcially, you can't go wrong if you request a LAKEVIEW suite at Breakers Tower or Breaker's East. I emphasize lakeview, because there are rooms that face the parking lot. These room types are located in new wings of the Breakers, are vey spacious, and have the nicest decor. Our sentimental favorite is a Lakeview room in the old Bel Air section of the hotel. If you're on a tight budget and have a small family, these rooms with 2 double beds fit the bill. They're nowhere near being luxury, but all you're doing is sleeping there, right? Some families or groups will even rent a few of these instead of getting a super large room.
Some of the rooms I just mentioned qualify for Cedar Point's Getaway Packages. Getaway packages are very popular and are typically offered during the Spring Months until the end of June and at the end of the season. These 2 night packages provide tickets to the park, money for food, and other discounts. Additionally, you can string together multiple 2 night packages to extend your stay without changing rooms. With their popularity, though, the packages offered in June are typically booked in advance, so you need to call for availability.
Hope this helps.

While I tend to agree that they are a bit pricey, the rooms do book and are most often sold out on weekends in July and August so I wouldn't say it's overkill. The $3 soda on the other hand, that is overkill! :)

If you're big on price and don't care about being right at the park, look at the end of the causeway. We've stayed at the Best Western. The price is a little better and the rooms are pretty much the same (minus the lakeview). It's a 2 minute drive to the park. The other thing is that come prime season everything is over priced. Even the BW raises there rates. If you call BW and join the BW club (We did for free) the give better rates for club members.. Not to mention you rack up points for free rooms.
We are thinking of staying at the Breakers this year for our anniversery. For the atmosphere. We have an annual campsite we normally stay at. But the Breakers is a cool old hotel.
If you are going to ride and then go straight to bed and then go riding the next day, maybe on point isn't your best bet..

Get with it or die in the process.....
I agree Breakers is the place to be if you want to be right there by the park. Roll out of bed and onto Magnum. :) I also like Lighthouse Point as well. The cabins there are pretty nice.

You can have a book mailed to you with coupons and info about the area by going to www.buckeyenorth.com.
I have never stayed at any of the resorts at CP, as much as I would've loved to, they are too expensive for me.

Hey, "m", stay on the point! It is worth the extra bucks!
I know, I've done both.

Out of curiosity last night, I took a look at the "virtual rooms" at the official website. The only showing for the Breakers were 2 Bel Air rooms. I can now see the cause of m's disappointment; but morevoer, I'm surprised that such an important feature on the website hasn't been updated to reflect the other roomtypes that are offered. I.e.: Breakers Tower and East, the Radisson, and L. H. Point.

If you can make a buck and fill all of your rooms, how is that, as a business, overkill? Sure sounds like good business to me.

It's very hard to drink all day...
Unless you start first thing in the morning.
i am sure that's the rationale behind 3.00 sodas....that still doesn't make it right. when I mentioned overkill, i spoke from a customer's perspective as i could care less about cp's business acumen. As i stated before and i think someone else agreed with me, the pics on the site do nothing to enhance the quality of the rooms and could actually deter guests from staying in them.
that being said, i did take the advice in one of the posts(np2000's) and checked online and saved about 150.00 on the hotel room by using a state employee's discount at the Radisson...so i wanted to send a big thanks again for the info.
