As for the area where the old waterpark once stood, I believe new picinic grounds are suppost to be constructed in that spot.
those were constructed last year down by the fairy docks, they are the lakeside pavilions. as for the former huricane hannas on the ride side nothing is being built there this year, i belive they are tearing out the old stuff and are going to fence the area off till 2007
I doubt GL would want to fool with a hydraulic launch coaster with everything else they have to worry about. I can't see GL wanting to deal with that mechanically, and with their sinking attendance are we sure a roller coaster is the best choice? SF tried it for numerous years and it didn't seem to work with just new coasters galore.
Thrills Around the Corner!
I agree TP Thrill 182. I think GL will focus on more family attractions or unique items that are not cost-intensive. If a roller coaster comes, I would expect something more like a "Spinning Dragons"-type version, or something CP does not have and will not have. I don't think it's realistic to expect a hyper...there's no point when CP offers that, and offers that very well. Just like I don't see CP getting a Floorless, when that is GL's signature coaster.
With the posted question, I think the old waterpark will be fenced off until 2007. A safe guess could be that many smaller attractions will be added in that area instead of one huge thing. The area is too sprawled out for just one item. Maybe some sort of new midway could be added, with food, games and flat rides, maybe a family coaster as well like a Wild Mouse.

I always thought that a hyper along 43 would really catch the eye. Of course the first hill would have to be in Bainbridge closer to the main gate. Superman or whatever it's called is kind of in the way for my original plan, however, the real interesting thing i thought would be that they could use the slight elevation change and run the turnaround right down to the lake. And that would be a way to keep the profile low enough to keep the city of Aurora's big mouth shut. (the munucipality that Mr Ninja was trying to come up with, and yes they do have a low limit).
net, CF has repeatedly stated that the two parks would be run as competitors. I arfue that GLP needs a hyper if it wants to compete in this state/region.
Not to say that this is the time or that that space is the place for it, but it should come sooner or later. A new midway however is a great idea for the space, and then link it up with the waterpark across the lake. In fact if it were my world i would build a hotel along the lake there between the new wave pool and the asscocitation land. But that seems a little far fetched for CF ;)
I wonder if possibly the new picnic areas might be moved for a future kiddie land expansion along the lake there? That would make the most sense to me.
