What to do in Sandusky when it's raining?

My boyfriend and I are driving in from Pittsburgh Friday night after work, staying Saturday and Sunday night. We bought tickets in advance through AAA. Just bought one day, we know what we want to ride and didn't care to shell out for both days.

Original plan was go to the park all day Saturday, sleep in Sunday and drive home. However, as of right now it looks like it's going to rain on Saturday and be clearer on Sunday. So we may just go to CP on Sunday so as not to miss out on a lot of rides shut down by the rain.

So my question is, what's there to do in the Sandusky/Cedar Point area on a rainy day? We're not that picky - museums, bowling, other indoor activities. Just want to have a back up plan so that we can be flexible on what day we go to the park.

Thanks for your help!

If you're interested in parks, The Merry-Go-Round Museum is a nice way to spend an hour or so. If you're into waterparks, you might also consider a day pass at one of the city's many indoor waterparks. And, of course, as you mentioned, bowling is available. ;)

On saturday, my friends and I went to the Ghostly Manor on 250 after leaving the park at around 7:00 because of rain and we found the haunted house to be quite enjoyable. Plus, you can also rollerskate and even go on the XD theater motion simulator.

There are 3 indoor water parks.....you can also go to Soak City.

I am going this Friday morning till Monday (arriving in Sandusky at 8 AM on Friday, leaving Sandusky Monday at 10 PM or later). So I will be there to ride the weather out with you.

I personally plan on going all 4 days because if you check the weather forecasts as the day moves on the rain is supposed to disappear, and the park will have some fast lines hopefully because of the rain.

We're staying at Hotel Breakers and going to relax around there.
This Friday is supposed to be almost 80 and since the weather is going to be muggy / hot the first day we are thinking of going to the water park possibly for the first day. Since the remainder of our trip will have cooler temperatures the water park could be less enticing....

We will be checking the weather forecasts and seeing what the radar has to offer us to help us plan out the day obviously.

You can also go to like a rock and country show, and a few other shows I think that take place during the rain. Or you could just get your lunch done during the rain. You have to have faith :). We went once last year...good morning start (but looking like rain), and then it rained...and rained for a good 2 hours maybe 3 hours. Everyone retreated to game arcades and we even bought ponchos for $10 a piece I think.....I am definitely not going to the shows, but I will probably wear my bathing suit to the park the first 2 days, and bring my ponchos.
Rain went away...by 5 PM park was dried up...all rides had usual one hour waits, but during the on-off rain times the rides had really short waits (under half an hour).

If you guys want to chill we're going out for food and drinks after the park closes every night. *** Edited 8/21/2007 1:05:59 AM UTC by factory81***

Kalahari is a pretty cool place to go on a rainy day in Sandusky. It's out on US 250 a little bit south of the Sandusky Mall and it features a large indoor waterpark, shops, a sizeable arcade, indoor minigolf, and several places to eat.

At the corner of Cleveland Rd. and the entrance road to CP, the Thirsty Pony combines a sports bar and a bowling alley under one roof. Star Lanes, which is a little farther east on Cleveland Rd., is another bowling alley in the area.

As for movies, there are two cinemas in Sandusky. One is behind the Sandusky Mall and the other is off US 250 near Wal-Mart. Most currently running movies can be seen at these cinemas.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Thomas Edison birthplace in Milan, OH (30-45 min away from CP) and on another sidenote the Thisty Pony complex also has laser tag and an indoor waterpark of its own.

As was mentioned above there is the Ghostly Manor Thrill Center out on 250. It is located right behind the Friendly's Resturaunt.

We have 3 attractions in the same building.
A top ten rated Haunted House (Rated in the top ten the past 3 years by http://dafe.org) that opens at 7PM
Also we have the XD3D theater, which is a 3D motion simulator with3 different movies that you can choose from, which opens at 3PM
And we have the skating rink which opens at 3PM, you can rent skates, roller blades, and scooters, or bring your own.

I would recommend trying out the haunted house even if it is not raining, it is very much worth the time and money.

I've wanted to go to this haunted house for a long time... Since it's a year-round haunted house, do they have actors there? Is it really scary? I love a good spookhouse :)

No, its real zombies and such. Really hard to find, and they have to be discarded after a while because of the stench. ;)

Goodbye MrScott

John

Well, you used to be able to ride roller coasters in the rain but apparently, not any more.

Go over to Port Clinton and take the Jet Express to Put-in-Bay for the day. Bring an umbrella.

Yes we have actors year round (really just June through Oct, but year round for groups of 40 or more) But during the summer (June through Sep) we don't have as many actors as we do during the main season (Oct.) But I will say that the actors who work during the summer really know what they are doing and can still scare the crap out of you!

As for is it scary, well refer to my previous post (We have been rated in the top 10 in the US for the past 3 years by http://dafe.org). We will scare you thats for sure.

BTW John I showed your post to a few of the actors and they said that they don't have to be replaced often, the stench adds to the atmosphere. :) *** Edited 8/22/2007 1:47:57 AM UTC by Morté615***

^^^ I think the Jet Express operates a boat out of Sandusky now too. Or at least they did for a while.

In 04 or 05 some of us Screamsters happened to end up having dinner with some of the actors from the Ghostly Manor. They were a great group of people, and many stories were shared that night. I really need to get over there to go through their haunted house. If they're as good as they say they are, I may even learn a thing or two. :)

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Yes, take the Jet Express from Sandusky to Put-In-Bay. Pleanty of bars and indoor entertainment for the entire day (if you are 21 or older).

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Let the person at the door know you are a screamster at Cedar Point and they will let everyone else know and we will spend a little extra effort :)

Bring it on, we love a challenge!! (I would recommend Friday around 8-9, we have more actors and we are warmed up but not quite tired yet :)
