What is Superman?

Okay, I know we've been over this a million times but what class should S:The Escape be in? Should it be in regular coaster, Launched coaster, or just a thrill ride. I really don't see how you can put a ride in the roller coaster category without it being FULL-CIRCUIT. It appears to be launched ride hiding under the roller coaster category. We really need some kind of impartial standard, instead of the indidvidual park's partiality. Guiness wouldn't know a roller coaster if it hit them in the face, and Amusement Today, admittantly, is a little biast. What if the parks came together and created an independent board of roller coaster experts, with both sides agreeing to the board's outcome? *** This post was edited by bobthetomato on 12/23/2000. ***
I think you mean Superman: The Escape. And personally, I know it's not a coaster and has no right to be considered one. We could come back at SFMM and say Superman isn't a coaster but our Demon Drop IS which would put them at 14 and us at 15. That would be the competitive thing to do. Demon Drop has a lot more of a right to be a coaster than Superman. We'll just have to see what our lovely director of PR has up his sleeve.....

Trim brakes-a necessity???
I haven't ever been to SFMM but, don't they have a Demon Drop ride too ? If they do, we would still be tied.

Back on topic-- I do not think that it is a roller coaster. The ride is in my opinion just a large thrill ride. If you consider that a coaster then all S&S power lauch and turbo drop rides are coasters too. They run on track with wheels and are lauched or droped just like on the Superman ride.

And another thing I keep clicking on spell check and get an error....
SFMM has 'Freefall' which is the exact same thing as Demon Drop.

WHO CARES!

Does it really matter? If you count it or not, each park will still have the same rides. Why don't you go and ENJOY the rides at Cedar Point. Why don't you go and ENJOY the rides at SFMM? I am sick and tired of all this crap about people trying to find a way to get CP to have the most coasters. Its OLD.
Very, very played out indeed, Brett. Thanks for those words.

Now we'll get the CP faithful on here and they'll start ranting about how S:TE isn't a roller coaster and this and that...

Well it is, and I'll bet if you have a private, completely confidential meeting with the heads of Cedar Point, you can be sure they'd say Magic Mountain has more coasters than them.

To paraphrase Bob Dole, "It's a coaster. You know it, I know it, and the American people know it."

How dare you vanquish the Steel Phantom without his consent? Fear the Phantom's Revenge.
Yeah.. even SFMM lists S: TE usually as the worlds tallest thrill ride.

Which I will be riding on the 3rd of Jan. Leaving for L.A. on Friday.. Actually looking forward to Riddler's Revenge more than Superman, Mantis being my favorite coaster at CP.

MF 2000 - 269 laps
Yeah.. even SFMM lists S: TE usually as the worlds tallest thrill ride.

ALL roller coasters are thrill rides. But not all thrillrides are coasters.
Actually, SFMM describes it as a dual track coaster with the shape of an L, which uses LSM to acheive it's 100mph speed. Pretty clear cut to me, that this is a form of rollercoaster :)
my favorite park is cp, I'll admit.
but I really enjoy any park,or coaster
everyone here has to agree that son of beast it a better coaster than most will admit.
who cant like a looping coaster without anything over your shoulder??
and that nice curve at the crest of the lift hill, although those rollbacks almost make hearing protection necessary.
I even enjoy every ride on mean streak, and we all know how the cp fans love it,hehe, and sometimes the people I take on it aren't as thrilled, but a coaster is a coaster, and a rides a ride, even if some rides to some people are considered coasters to others!
