What happens to CP in the winter?

I was just wondering, what happens to the coasters in the winter?  I mean do they get protected somehow?  It would be realy fun just to go there in the winter, drive down teh causeway and look at the coasters.  Or it would be even better to walk through the park and see everyting one last time before the next year. You know, when everything is vacant and the rides are sleeping.

Although I am not sure about this winter (yet) in years past the coaster cars are taken off the tracks and some are placed in the Hotel Breakers parking lot, and for the most part they are covered. Last year they left Raptor's trains on the tracks under the platform all winter, why I have no clue. (My guess there would be because technically the Raptor platform "covers" all the trains when they are "parked" leaving them more protected than the other coasters) It is my understanding too that each and every coaster car is taken apart and inspected during the winter.
You would be amazed how different CP looks (and sounds) now!

My car has been down down many of the midways in the off-season, and there isn't much to see. All of the trains/cars/tubs and coverings are removed and taken to various places around the park, including the picnic shelters. If you look around the gallery you'll see some photos of Power Tower, Wave Swinger and Matterhorn, among others.

It was during the construction of MF and Perimeter Road was closed so we had to drive through the parking lot.

I was wondering, do they let people into the park durring the winter?  I've seen quite a few pictures on various CP websites of the park durring the off season.  Is it one of those things where you just have to know the right people?

Knowing the right person is always a good idea. However, you have to make sure it is the RIGHT person.  I beleive the right person has to receive permission first.  Unless of course you asked Dick Kinzel :) I'm sure the person Jeff talked to, received permission from various sources.  I have personally driven vehicles through the park.  Pretty much you have to have a fairly good driving record in order to do so.  Seasonal park driving isn't that much of a secret either.  After all I remember seeing trucks in Kiddy Kingdom during Millennium Mania.

I didn't have any special permission... I was on a contruction tour and Perimeter Rd. was closed because of MF construction. The business traffic was routed through the park, then a PR rep drove us around to get some good photo angles. The results are in the gallery.
