Lets see what CP did to "improve" the Park in 2001 so far.
1. Lighthouse Point
2. Open gates at 10, instead of 9
3. Cut hours in June and May.
4. Additional days for halloweekends and improved themeing
5. Removal Fascination and instillation of a Johnny Rockets
6. Joe Cool Club for season pass holders, including a Limited 7 hours of ERT for
I thinks its a wash and they hardley improved the park. The biggest thing that bothers me is the gate opening and the removal of fascination. I'm sure Halloweekends and Lighthouse point will be nice, and any ERT is better than none.
It would be really nice if they partially reinstalled Fascination in the arcade or other building, tacked on some additional ERT for the Joe Cool Club, and not change history by openings the gates at 9. What little things to make me happy. The cutting of hours in May and June seem insignificant to these things now :(
Is it official that the gates and rides will open at the same time this year? If so, CP is making a big mistake. That is one of the things that sets them apart from other parks. I like the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll around the park and then queue up for my favorite ride before it opens. I don't see why they would do this. Its going to create a mob of people running toward MF, someone is going to get trampled and CP might get sued. A park with such a great safety record should think of such things! Safety is no accident! Why change a good thing!? I really don't think it would save them anything to have the gates open at 10 besides maybe some security inside the park.

P.S. As for the other "improvements", they don't really affect mee since I won't be able to visit in May, but I can see how closing earlier in May would bother alot of people.
I wish they kept Fascination opened. It was kinda of a tradition for me to play Fascination each time I went to the park but I'll get over it. All the other improvements seem fint to me. I really like the park being open to the end of October.

MF Count: 11
It would give an extra hour for in-park maintenance.

Matt,
I just got off the phone with CP's general information and was told that the park gates would open at 9AM, same as always. As you mentioned that is one of the best quiet times to walk around the park before the fun begins.

Depends on what you consider an "improvement". Another restaurant taking the place of a great game really doesn't excite me all that much. Lighthouse Point is an interesting addition, and I'm sure will do well - I'd love to stay back there, especially if they work it out so that you can rent kayaks or something like that, some lake-type activities. But the rest? Whoopee. But who knows how it will turn out.

That is really good to hear Kay! I'm not exactly sure where that rumor started, but it just didn't make any sense to me! :) Also, don't forget that Raptor is supposed to be painted this year. It really doesn't affect us all that much, but I like shiny, new looking rides... :)

Joe E., Cedar Point has always said that the park opens at 10. That means that the gates open at 9 and the rides start at ten.
Don't look at me!

Sure, losing Fascination might seem awful up front, but you know...
What if Johnny Rockets is extremely successful, thereby giving CP a nice chunk of cash they wouldn't have seen otherwise? Who knows... that might put them over the top for that 400' tall wooden inverted stand-up looper that goes underwater 6 times.

How dare you vanquish the Steel Phantom without his consent? Fear the Phantom's Revenge.
That sounds like one painful ride!

...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!
It's been a painful off-season for me to see cool coasters going up everywhere and CP getting nothing. I know they can't build one every year, but a new flat or spinning ride would have been nice. There is nothing to talk about, and this site shows it... a lot of us have said that. I just hope 2002 is a huge year ride-wise for CP. (and no one better respond by saying, "Isn't MF enough?")!!!!!! To answer your question, the new improvements do nothing for me. Lighthouse Point just took a chunk of land away for future ride development. My family loves Fascination, so that will hurt. I was not expecting much this year, but I thought we would have something to talk about.
But won't the MJ IMAX movie be enough this year? Hehehe...Seriously, I don't have any big gripes or praises for the new additions this year. I live near PKI where we used to get something new every other year, so it's not too big of a deal for me to wait a year for the next big event. But you really can't complain too much. CP is the best park in the world with the best coasters. Who cares what everyone else is getting this year. We're still going to enjoy the great stuff CP has, and next year when all the other parks are taking a year off, CP will be putting up that 400 footer wooden back breaker Lynch mentioned. By the way, someone said they called and the gates are now openning at 9 like always? Is this true? Anyone have any backup news on this? That was the one "improvement" I really didn't like. Open the damn gates at 9!!!

Question: How do you explain the actions of millions of people who wait hours upon hours to be drop
I was readng on Thrillride last night that CP is currently working on remodeling the front gate and entrance. According to that, it is going to look alot like the new accomodations complex built last year. The group sales and season pass office is also supposed to get a new look. Can anyone here confirm if this is true?
Honestly, the first time I visited CP, I kind of had a roller coaster of feelings while getting there. When I was driving down the causeway, I was like, "WOW!" Then when I saw the cheesy entrance area I was like, "Ummm, maybe this place isn't so great." But of course, once I was inside, I had one of the best times of my life and to this day, I think of CP every day.

A remodeled front gate would be a nice improvement. I've always thought the entrance was slightly anti-climatic and seemed a bit anemic. I sometimes I feel like I should just throw my money in a little basket and wait for an arm to go up.
It was on thrillride (hint hint!) , but at least it's believable and sensible. Seems like a good chance that it would happen.

A bad day at CP is better than a good day at work.
I am not happy with Cedar Point getting rid of their traditional stuff. I mean they took out Pirate Ride now fasination. I don't care about the cabins I mean Cedar Point has so many places you can stay already, why make another?
-------------
Number 1 And Only Cedar Point.
The cabins give a camping option to those who don't drive their house around on vacation :)
They actually seem to be pretty nice. About as secluded as you get on the point these days. I'm probably too cheap to stay there though.
Well, so far One of my biggest gripes may have been laid to rest. I'm sure CP will have a few surprises. They are spending a lot of money and I doubt its all going into the Cabins. Some fresh concrete on some of the path's may help, the new gate that was mentioned, new garage cans, heck anything is possible. Can this year be better than the last? hell yeah!
Now coaster improvements is a different subject, and this year is looking good. Paint on Raptor, new bodies for Magnum, and a possible Mantis unload station :-)
Hey there guys. To tell you the truth I do have pictures of some work going on at the entrance of the park. There is a large steel box in between the ticket area and the entrance a couple of trucks and it looked like piles of mulch. So it looks kinda like they are just getting ready for summer, but younever know what is in the box. I bet Jeff knows.
