I'm going up to the Point next week with 2 friends. Me and one of the girls have been before, but the other girl never has. She has requested that her first ride be on a rollercoaster. I was thinking Raptor because she's never been on a suspended coaster before so I thought it'd be fun for her first ride.
Just for fun, what do you guys suggest for her first coaster and why?
P.S. Every first-timer I take to the park doesn't get to ride Millenium Force until it's dark, as their last ride of the day, so she won't be riding that until then. Hey, I like the day to go out with a bang :)
Is it just a first timer to cedar point or to roller coasters in general? But go with magnum. IT's a classic to cedar point, and it wont be too crowded in the morning.
She's just a first timer to CP. I won't be getting there until about 5pm on our first "day" though....
I think Gemini is a good coaster to start with. Then you can do Mean Streak and hit up Magnum on the walk back towards the front. Of course you could do ride Blue Streak on your way to Gemini if you wanted to go small to large.
Millennium Force Laps-168
**Vertigo Launches-21**
Dragster Launches-52
I think you should ride the Blue Streak first because it is in the front of the park and it is a good coaster to start on because it is small. But Raptor is also a good one to start on because it is also in the front of the park.
Mainly I agree with macho nachos

My first coaster (ever) was Blue Streak, and it scared the foshizz out of me (too rickety, hehe) but if she's ridden other coasters to compare it to that's what I'd recommend. Magnum sounds like an excellent idea, but if you aren't coming in from CV it might be a bit of a walk.

Definitely Raptor. It was the first roller coaster I ever got on at CP and it blew me away. After almost literally falling out of a rollercoaster when I was about 7 or 8, I wasn't to exited to ever get on a roller coaster again. But you can't go to CP with out getting on at least one coaster, so my friends made me get on Raptor and it was awsome. I wasn't scared to get on anything after that except MF, but I quickly got over that too.
I vote for Magnum. Its not too over the top to kill the experience of other rides (like I feel MF does), but its big enough to impress most people. And, its just overall fun.
I think Raptor, MF, and dragster are special and should be saved for last. :)
I think I thought of Raptor because I wanted something different that the normal sitting-in-a-typical-coaster-car thing. Something to wow her right off the bat (and Raptor is my 2nd fav coaster!).
But, Gemini is still different enough, with dualing trains, that might be a good idea too.
Decisions, decisions.......
It'll be pretty dependent on wait time for Raptor when we get there, since after sitting in a car for 11 hours, I'm going to want some more speed than the interstate....lol...and I'm not going to want to wait long to get on a ride.
But your suggestions with reasons are great, thanks! :) *** Edited 7/1/2005 12:20:16 AM UTC by CarrieS***
Hey im also going to the point next week, also with a 1st timer to Cedar Point. Im probably going to take him on Blue Streak and then maybe Wicked Twister and Disaster Transport as his first 3. I'll be there the the 6th and 7th, which days will you be there?
Cool, I'm there from July 6-11. Can't wait!
I told the one friend we should take Megan (the first timer) on DT; she says "That's not a coaster!" I'm not sure why I found that funny :) And, I actually like the ride too *ducks*
Gemini was my first coaster. A great one to start with. Really smooth and not too intense, but great fun.
Thrills Around the Corner!
I would definately hit Raptor first. Not only is it a great coaster, it's a great starter to get the blood flowing. If you're worried about the line length, Raptor still is a good choice. While almost every ride in the park can have some long lines (especially coasters) Raptors line always seems to keep flowing and don't stop most of the time. It seems to make any wait time go pretty quick.
I especially agree with TerryFriel. Raptor is a good one to get the adrenaline pumping.
P.S. The only time we've ever had a bad wait for Raptor is when it was testing for about a half-hour during a 1 1/2 hr. actual queue... :)
