What can Cedar Fair do...

...to make Geauga Lake better. I personally would like to have, (as seen in another post) an Enterprise. I think every park, that is a park, has one. I also am very upset about the "lines close early" regulation and would like to see that go. And of course I would like to see the wildlife area back up and running. I started this topic because I would like to see what people think Cedar Fair could do to Geauga Lake to make it better. (improvements, regulations ect.)

Well as said before, (and I think they were referencing the phone interview about this whole thing), one of the higher ups said that, "Cedar Fair is not into the business of wildlife."

That being said, I don't blame them. They're way more expensive than what they're worth. They don't bring in much of anything, and they really don't 'attract crowds' like new rides probably would. It's much easier and cheaper and more econimical to pay for Live E entertainers than take care of the animals year round and pay bucko bucks for their trainers to put together a brand new show every year (nearly). In short I don't blame them at ALL for not bringing it back. With the nasty conditions that have to be cleaned daily, the upkeep, etc. they're not worth it.

The 'lines closing early' I assume was explained on another thread, as well. Most people that work at GL are people that live in the Aurora area.... They don't have on-point or near point housing for their workers like CP does. If they had on point or near point housing, then I'm sure they'd consider it. ... then again if you KNOW of this, you shouldn't really have a problem... It might be a slight annoyance, but just think of how much more tired the employees would be the next day if they had to work two hours after the park closes and then have to drive a half hour or 45 min to get to the park afterwards... Being more tired = bad moral, bad customer service, and just is not good overall. CP can get away with it b/c their employees don't HAVE this hour to hour and a half trip to and fro. You also have to take into account that they have to leave at least 15 to 30 min earlier than the time it usually takes for those odd days of getting into the park late from large crowds.

I live off point in Bellevue. I have to (sometimes) leave over an hour early if they think it's going to be busy the next day. That multiplied by 6 days is a LOT of lost sleep, but they accomodated me by not giving me as many splits or allowing me to trade them off to someone who wanted one to play in the park... If you think I'm kidding about the lack of sleep thing, though. ... Lesson learned by me: Never trust loud music in your car and you're tired... always call a friend. lol

And finally... I have no idea what an Enterprise is, so ... no comment on that one ;)

This whole closing early thing was started by SFI to save on labor dollars. They would close rides further from a gate and work the people out on time. Even three years ago the park didn't follow this rule. I would hope that it isn't used much if at all. There really isn't a need.
It's great living in Bellevue, huh Ben? ;)

An Enterprise is the manufacturers name for the Witches Wheel. Geauga Lake has one, but Dick Kinzel said it won't open with the park because it needs extensive maintenance.

Extensive maintenance... suprise, suprise...
LOL everything at GL needs extensive maintenance!

LOL - Is that a fact? I suppose you worked in ride maintenance at GL or have first hand experience. If not I would not make such a broad statement.

My guess is that local residents have indicated that they do not want the rides running past park close. It's even worse if the park grows and causes local gridlocks or builds an obnoxiously loud roller coaster. This can knock down the value of local homes by a big chunk.

Hmm.... and I thought everyone would want a giant roller coaster a couple minutes away!!! No seriously... who wouldn't want that??? other than the insane.

The thing is, from a traffic perspective, it is to everyone's advantage for the rides to NOT all stop running at once. If EVERYONE tries to get out of the park at 10:00pm when the park closes, you get gridlock for hours. If the queues close at 10:00pm, it takes an hour for people to get out of the park, and they trickle out of the parking lot, sans gridlock.

That's why Cedar Point went to 11:00 closes in mid summer after they started the laser show.

Yeah, but Dave, try telling that too the locals. They most likely wouldn't believe you.

Build employee housing. Constant improvements, add full service sitdown restaurants, more restrooms, water fountains. Keep the South side for expansion. Do not sit on this park because CP is two hours up the road. So much potential, do it right and dont give up like SF.

They should make Employee housing.

Well said Ben!

I really, really would love to see employee housing at Geauga Lake. I work in the park and live in Akron. It's about a 40 minute drive on a good day. I'm usually beat after work and sometimes am so tired that I nod off while driving home. And I'm in leadership this year which means more hours (that's a good thing :) ). This year I'm doing some preseason work so I'm hoping to avoid all of that falling asleep at the wheel thing. If housing were available to me then I would have a much shorter drive.

Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that GL needs alot of ride maintenance. Have you seen the carousel lately?? And don't even get me started on Mr. Hydes Nasty Fall.

Let me rephrase that statement:

Caroline should have said:

Geauga lake should open the Water park with the rest of the park. that would be much better.
