What are those pegs on Magnum?

You can see them sticking out of the track on the desent of the first hill. What are they?

I always heard that they wanted to build a stair case going down the first drop. I honestly have no clue.

I've been looking for an answer to this for a long time. They sure look like supports for a staircase. Why would they need a staircase going down there?
Two thoughts: Maybe something to do with in case the train rolls back in between the first and second hill? Or maybe to do with a track inspection along the drop?

Maybe to make it look faster when you drop... When there are lines like that next to the track it usually looks faster.. i dunno though
But how many people actually notice those while barreling down the first drop?
Maybe Arrow screwed up.

Maybe I'll take Dan up on his offer:

"BTW, If you have a question about Magnum, and I don't know it, I will find the answer in 24hrs!"

In that case...

All right, Dan...what did you find out? :)

I found out that I should watch what I say because it might come back to haunt me :)

Dan is right about the staircase. That was something I asked Ride-ops & maintainance the first year it opened. They were to be used for inspecting the track, but abandoned the idea due to safety issues. Can you imagine walking down a set of stairs at 60 degrees?!!

They do it on wooden coasters.
