Western Cruise

If you look at the 1986 and 1987 maps you'll notice the what would eventually become Millennium Island was separated from where Iron Dragon's island.

There are a few other slender islands there as well. I guess I never noticed them before. The park must have filled those in eventally and turned one into where Snake River Falls resides and the other into the current boneyard.

If you want to go really old school, check out the map of when Corkscrew was built--the midway stopped at Troika. I never new Corkscrew used to be so close to so much water...I guess that explains the little waterway right after the loop. Isn't that little building in front of Corkscrew's lift where Jungle Larry's stood?

CP was a very different park pre-80's. The late 70's showed a new trend in the park and of course that was to become home to the most thrill rides anywhere.

I thought for a horrible minute that my memory had failed as I sat here trying REAL HARD to remember when Western Cruise stopped in Frontier Town.

The dock for the Western Cruise has moved twice. It was originally in the building that became the Paddlewheel, then in 1970 it moved down the street as part of the new midway past the Frontier Lift and the Monster. I believe C.P. included it on their list of 10 new rides for 1970.

Even though the Western Cruise was around long before Frontier Town or Trail, I've always wondered why they didn't finally just go ahead and locate the dock back in Frontier Town. Certainly would have made better sense theme-wise, and would have made the latest move to the Gemini midway unnecessary. (Where it still seems out of place- maybe that's why the name was changed from Western Cruise to Paddlewheel Excursion, huh?)

Dont forget that the monster used to be right next to the western cruise station as well.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
