Weld-mark, Halloweekend scare, or Fatal error?

Hi I just got back from the Point (my first trip :)), and I saw

something on one of the supports of TTD leading up the huge

hill. It looks to me like a painted or taped on fake crack for

Halloweekends. Some people say it's a welding mark. I don't

know about you, but I see a considerable amount of shaking in

that area when the train goes speeding past.

First trip to the Point coming on July 11 - 14 WAHOO

I can assure you that the shaking is nothing to worry about, and that this, real or not, is known to exist by the people who work on the ride.... but where exactly is it?
http://tinypic.com/1hxsi Here's the image. The "crack" is on the other side of the support area I circled. *** Edited 8/7/2004 3:32:15 AM UTC by Coaster Cray-z***

Hmm...

I'll probably be going on Sunday, i'll take a look and maybe get a picture or two.

Sounds good.. I'd like to know more about this even if if isn't anything harmful. The "crack" is very close to where they bolt the supports to the track, or other supports, if you get the idea.

If it's what i'm thinking about, this was discussed last year. It just looks like a big black mark to me.

Yeah, fat chris is right. This was discussed last year. I can't seem to find the thread, though.
Yeah they are right, that mark was there very early last summer. Nothing to worry about.

Dan

I have seen it many times, I think that it is a real cool Halloweekends scare, if it is in fact one. But, I don't worry about it at all.
Topthrill, did you fail to read the three previous posts? It has nothing to do with Halloweekends.
Wait wait, now that I think about it, that does kinda ring a bell...

I remember, either on this forum or another one, someone mentioning seeing some possible cracking last year and I went to check it (DUH!) and saw that too, but it didnt look bad... it was just some scuffing up on the beam.

Wait, lol, its all comming back....

ah well, im still going tomorrow anyways! ;)

I think i remember that thing. I don't know if this is the same thing, But there looks like there is a crack on the support near the track just as you enter the park through the magnum entrance. If thats the thing, Then its been there since the beginning.

Yeah? I did. No where did we ever rule out that it wasn't a Halloweekend's "joke". In fact, some claimed that it looks painted or taped on. Seems like it could be a really cool Halloweekends "prop".

I did visit the park today and I did take a look at the beam in question.

Doesnt look like anything is really wrong with it... but there is definitely what appears to be paint-chipping or rust on there. It doesnt seem like a fracture of stress crack of any sorts... just... something stuck on there.

But that could just be me.

My engineer bro-in-law who deals with metals (and is almost a daily visitor to CP) provided me with some close up photo's from the midway side of the support in question. He has told me that in his option that these are indeed weld marks. He also has seen other smaller weld marks on one day and the next they are painted over.

He also mentioned that this section of support has been removed, welded and then reinstalled. He said he could see the tire marks in the grass area next to this part of the tower created by probably a crane.

Althought this is HIS OPINION, I believe him since I know nothing about engineering or welding. Plus, he lives and works in the Sandusky area and knows quite a few engineer's.

I do have photos' but have no website to post them on at this time.

It's just a scratch. It has been there forever. There is no conspiracy or welding.
