I believe it's actually one county south, but I might be mistaken.
While we're on the subject of Ohio geography, does anybody know why Sandusky is in Erie County when the next county over is Sandusky County?
Actually, I would imagine it has something to do when counties were drawn up and when the city was founded.
Why is Elyria the county seat of Lorain County when Lorain is the next city north and is twice the size? I'm begining to think that Ohio geography doesn't make any sense.
Why is there a North Ridgeville and there is no Ridgeville, South Ridgeville, etc? There's an East Cleveland and no West Cleveland. There is, however, an Eastlake and a Westlake. That makes sense. :)
Upper Sandusky has to do with the Sandusky River. Upper Sandusky is upstream from the river's outlet into the Sandusky Bay. Due to the laws of gravity, this necessitates the upstream portion of a river to be higher in elevation than the outlet. Therefore, Upper Sandusky is above, or up from, Sandusky.
I grew up in Berlin Heights which is 130 miles from Berlin, Ohio which also happens to be higher in elevation than Berlin Heights.
It don't make no sense.
