Weather

I am in Kansas and want to plan a trip to CP around May 22-23. What is the weather like up there at that time? I am afraid that being on the lake it might be pretty cold still when the sun goes down. Thanks.

You can see why it's such a hard question to answer. The real question is why let a little cool weather stop you from visiting, especially since you don't know what you're going to get anyway? Follow the guidelines in the FAQ, but you can't predict the weather this far out so don't let it cloud your judgment.

ForgottenEE's super extended forcast for May 22nd and 23rd.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain. Highs in the high 70's to low 80's, Lows in the low 40's.

You won't have to worry about being in the park when the sun goes down because the park closes at 8:00pm each day you plan on being there unless your staying on point.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

It can tend to be fairly chilly at CP through May, especially at the top of those lift hills. Bear in mind that it tends to be cooler on the point than in Sandusky. I would leave employee housing, which is at the shore next to the causeway, and be comfortable. However, when I got to the park, I'd wish that I'd brought a jacket.

But don't let that deter you. Cooler weather+local schools still in session=much smaller crowds. Even with an 8 PM closing, you will get to do more on a given May day (probably even a Saturday), than you would later in the summer.

I've been there for the past 2 years on that Monday (and looks like I'm going for the third) and, like Walt posted, it was rainy. HOWEVER, my May trips have been some of the best. There tends to be a spot or 2 of rain which keeps the park at a nice capacity level. The park is usually full of Canadians that day because it's our long weekend. I would bring a jacket though, it does tend to be cool.

I'd rather visit when it is cool, rather than 90+ and humid. You can always put on enough clothes to stay warm, but can't take enough off to stay cool, legally.

Not to get too much off topic, but for the last few years on opening weekend, we have been lucky to see good weather conditions, does anyone know how the past weather conditions have been on opening weekends? Just wondering.

I agree with MrScott. And it also keeps the crowds down when it's on the cool side.

I like the crowds better when it's cool out. I like some of the rides better when it's hot and dry out.

Several years ago I rode Magnum in the early afternoon. It was about 90 degrees and low humidity. I went to the ejector seat since it was much shorter wait as usual.

The first half of the ride is the same as usual. Of course the trims were off when I passed them. The pretzel was quite a rush where I usually find it to be bland. The first hill after that was insane. It felt like my legs were going to rip off and I'd fly out. One down, a bunch more to go. When I hit the brakes, I didn't know whether to think "Thank the good lord that this ride is over" or "Let's go again."

Of course I thought the later and for some reason the trims were off that time too. :)

That's an amazing story... really!

As you can see in my signature... I'll be there the days it says, which is the may long weekend. Excluding the 23rd-24th which are school days, but I don't care...

I'm hope the weather is good, Overcast w/ slim to little chance of showers during park hours... and between 15 and 20 degrees C...

I also hope to get on Milly-ennium atleast 25 times... hopefully, I plan on riding all the major rides as much as possible. Atleast I'll be at the Hotel so if it does rain, I can just hang out there and watch T.V.

And as usual I've rambled on too much, ignore me :)
