Water Main

Pete's avatar

Looks like the water main broke again, this time at the intersection of Causeway and 1st Street. Hopefully the new water tower will get them through until it is fixed.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Oh, geez. The city really needs to do something about that, it seems the main is breaking almost annually at this point. :(

You've got to be kidding.

If it's yellow, let it mellow.

We are checking into Breakers in 51 hours (not that I'm counting, or anything)...so, get to work, plumbers!

Is cedar Point shores open? We're headed up there now.

All cities across the country need to do something about it. This isn't unique to Sandusky, some of these waterlines in other cities are over 100 years old.

Glad we were leaving the Breakers this morning.

So far I couldn't even tell there was a water main break. There is absolutely no difference in anything, other than Rides going down for rain. Even Cedar Point Shores is completely open.

i haven't noticed an interruption to anything in the park today. We've been mostly hanging on the boat but just got back from Famous Dave's and all is well.

Looks like that new water tower really helped.

I thought that new tower was full of coke product.

I thought this was going to be a thread about 'when do you think it's going to break this year,' but I guess that's already happened. Good to hear that the new water tower is helping so this wasn't a big deal for the guests!

That's a lot of blow...

ROUNDABOUND.

So the new water tower has enough enough to water to keep CP, CPS, and the hotels & Campground running? Or is the park closing, AGAIN?

We don't know how massive the leak was and how quickly it was repaired or if there was even a main break. I only saw that from this thread. I didn't hear anything elsewhere. And from what I read, the park wasn't all that crowded yesterday. If this had been on a peak summer day with all resorts filled to capacity, the outcome could've been way different. Water consumption probably wasn't very high with crowd levels yesterday. But hopefully that water tower can keep the park running in such an emergency.

Not sure about Sandcastle or Lighthouse Point, but I do know Breakers was fully booked this weekend or at least that's the info I got at the Surf Lounge. The water main break that happened must have been small, quickly contained and repaired or it was not a supply main to the park.

The break was on the right side of the Causeway, just past First Street. Happened Sunday morning, probably around 11:00 - 11:30am. Cops had the Causeway closed for a short time and then resumed traffic with one lane in each direction on what is normally the outbound side. When I drove by they had a lot of digging and construction equipment on the scene already, probably made a speedy repair since it was an easily accessible location.

The new water tower is massive, probably can serve the entire peninsula for a significant time if the water supply is cut off.

We saw them working on it when we arrived around 10:30. Didn't notice any disruption in anything, and we stayed until the rain hit at about 5pm.

We saw water gushing fro the ground right near the trees and a truck or two checking it out at about 8:45 AM Sunday when we were heading to early entry so it was a bit earlier than Pete said.

I was worried it was going to be a repeat of the last two times it happened, but when we got to the park, they let us in like normal and we never noticed anything out of the ordinary all day. I doubt it's just the water town that kept things going. Did they ever run a second main out there or are we still dealing with just the one main?

I think I read during the last break that there is a second main now but it isn't as big as the original.
