That's the problem with phpBB - you either love it or you hate it. I have set it up and tried to administer forums with it and I have ALWAYS wound up settling for Invision over it. It's just clunky to me.
I'm probably just spoiled by the Something Awful custom vBulletin, because it's just so damn user friendly and nice.
I get tired of cleaning up after exploited phpBB Boards, that's for sure. And I'm always about the command line, but come on, can't they build functionality to upgrade it with the click of a freaking mouse? I get so tired of having to patch it manually for customers too stupid to do it themselves.
It has to be patched frequently? That's not a very good sign.

So, it could be freak luck, but I've only had the waiting thing happen once since Jeff isolated the site in its own process (whatever that means). Seems to be better, but I wasn't really complaining too much before. Thanks Jeff!

Good to hear. You could always get a delay from some kind of network latency where you are, but if you're generally getting speedy responses, that's a good sign.
It's still weird, because if it's not CB or PB, it would be weird that one of the other dozen sites was bringing down that once process.

So has anyone experienced a click-and-wait since I isolated the site? I haven't, but I don't have any metrics in place to check for that kind of thing.

I have experienced it a couple times. It seems like it's more on Coasterbuzz than Pointbuzz, but I'm not sure that that makes sense or not. Thanks for trying hard to fix this Jeff!
Jeff Young
It's happened once or twice since the site was isolated, but that is most likely just the occaisonal lag on my connection since it has been pretty fast in general since you isolated it.

CB has not been isolated in its own process, so it makes sense that you would experience a delay on that site, but not this one.

My computers internet runs at 8 megs a second so i no its not my internet. I also get this problem on both sites.
What you don't "no" is that the amount of bandwidth you have available doesn't mean that there is a clean route between you and another computer on the Internet.

Jeff,
It seems like I'm almost getting it more since you isolated the site, but I'm on Time Warner road runner, and school just let out last wednesday, so that could be on my end.
I'm not entirely sure.
You may have encountered it this morning as I was compressing some of the server logs. Stupid to do on a Monday morning, I know, but this site can generate logs as big as 300 MB in one day.

You can always run a traceroute to find out if its a slow hop or if its really the server. :)
Been there, done that for my connection on several occasions, and it always comes down to RR. I have always just accepted that my Road Runner just sucks. :)
It's really zippy today here from work. I've been watching disk I/O and CPU usage and it's surprisingly consistent. I also nuked a mess of sites that were no longer in use. One of these days I'll get all of the dev sites from ages ago off the box as well.

I haven't had any problems since you isolated it either.
