We're planning on staying 3 days at Sandcastle and are devoting 1 day to Cedar Pt. The other 2 days are reserved for the beach/pool but would also like to visit the Lake Erie Islands (Put In Bay & Marblehead). Any good suggestions on where to go, what to do, and especially, where to eat!
What islands? :)

Since you're staying on-Point, stop by the concierge desk at Breakers or touch the button on your in-room phone. We'll make all the arrangements for you. You'll probably want to take the Island Rocket, which you can pick up either at the CP Marina or in downtown Sandusky. You'll definitely want to check out Perry's Monument, the Winery, and enjoy a cold beer and pizza at Frosty's! Also, it will be tempting, but try to pass up the merry-go-round. ;)

Agreed with what CP Schroeder just said. Some more info - Marblehead isn't an island, you can get to it by car. Not much to do there, but you can visit the historic Marblehead Lighthouse. Put-In-Bay is the name of the town on South Bass Island. That place is a none stop party all summer. They other island is Kelley's Island, not quite the party place but fun and interesting never the less. The Island Rocket first stops at Kelley's Island and than goes on to Put-In-Bay. So you can visit both islands in one trip. If you do, go to Kelley's first and save Put-In-Bay for the late afternoon and evening. Contact me directly if you want more island info, it's like my second home (next to CP).

Just don't miss the ferry back, or you may have to sleep on the beach. I mean, nobody I know has ever gotten really drunk in Put-In-Bay, missed it, and passed out on the beach. Really. Nobody.

My history teacher once told me that a monument was viewable from the front gate/parking lot if you look left out into the water. I have never seen it. Anyone seen it from the point??

Live for FUN!
Are you talking about Perry's Monument? I've seen it from many spots on the mainland, so it is probably possible to see on a clear day from Cedar Point.

Sorry Dan, guess you can tell I'm a tourist. The islands I meant were South Bass Island and Kelleys Island :p
What's Lakeside like? The town I mean, not the Island.
So what do people do on these "islands?"

If you are interested in such things there is a Civil War cemetery on Johnsons Island you might want to visit. If you want to be more alone, I like to ride my bike on Middle Bass. Middle Bass used to have a historic winery with a fascinating history but it is now closed (at least until the State figures out what to do with it). North Bass is owned by Paramount Distilling, contains several hundred acres of vineyards and isn't normally accessible unless you can get a ride over during harvest in the fall. Don't forget to have a beer at "the world's longest bar" while you are at Put-in-Bay.
What do they do on the islands? I don't know, but I can tell you what they don't do. They don't drink alcohol, that's for sure. I think alcohol consumption is illegal in Put-In-Bay.

Yeah, Put-In-Bay is a dry town. All those clear plastic glasses that people are holding are filled with ginger ale. All those people who act drunk are only actors filming a commercial to attract people to the island. All of the "drinking establishments" are really only themed ice cream parlors, that way mom and dad will feel more at home while the children have ice cream. All the entertainment are really outdated audio-animitronics bought from Disney for cheap. Don't go to the island, nothing ever happens on the island. :)
To everyone who may be new to the Lake Erie island area, I found some song lyrics that describe the place perfectly. They are by a great entertainer, who plays afternoons at the Round House Bar every second week, called Mike "Mad Dog" Adams, and the song is called "WHO NEEDS MARGARITAVILLE (WHEN WE GOT PUT-IN-BAY)":
WELL I'VE BEEN ALL AROUND THIS GREAT BIG WORLD
AND I'VE TRAVELED NEAR AND FAR
BUT I FOUND A LITTLE PLACE
I DON'T NEED A SUIT CASE
'CAUSE ITS RIGHT IN MY OWN BACKYARD
I'LL TAKE A JET EXPRESS
AN' I'M GONNA' LEAVE THE REST
OF THAT UGLY OLD WORLD BEHIND
GONNA' GET THERE REAL FAST
HEADED UP TO SOUTH BASS
TO SEE THOSE ISLAND FRIENDS OF MINE
I'VE SEEN THE KEYS ON MY HANDS AND KNEES
AND FOLKS I JUST GOTTA' SAY
WHO NEEDS MAR-GAR-I-TA-VILLE
WHEN WE GOT PUT-IN-BAY
WELL ITS MY OWN LITTLE THEORY
ABOUT LAKE ERIE
ITS A NON-STOP HOLIDAY
WHO NEEDS MAR-GAR-I-TA-VILLE
WHEN WE GOT PUT-IN-BAY
WELL I CAN NIBBLE ON SPONGE CAKE
WATCHIN' THE SUN BAKE
TOURISTS COVERED IN OIL
STRUMMIN' A SIX STRING
WHILE THE CHURCH BELLS RING
BUT I LIKE WALLEYE
BEGINNING TO BROIL
I CAN DO SOME ISLAND HOPPIN'
MAYBE DO A LITTLE SHOPPING
FOR SOME BEADS OR A FAKE TATTOO
I CAN MAKE A LITTLE NOISE WITH ALL THE GIRLS AND BOYS
DOIN' WHAT WE ALL LIKE TO DO
I'VE SEEN THE KEYS ON MY HANDS AND KNEES
AND FOLKS I JUST GOTTA' SAY
WHO NEEDS MAR-GAR-I-TA-VILLE
WHEN WE GOT PUT-IN- BAY
ITS MY OWN LITTLE THEORY ABOUT LAKE ERIE
ITS A NON-STOP HOLIDAY
SO WHO NEEDS MAR-GAR-I-TA-VILLE
WHEN WE GOT PUT-IN-BAY
ITS HIGH UP IN THE MONUMENT
ITS LOWDOWN IN THE CAVES
THERE AIN'T A LOTTA' SAND
BUT THERE'S PLENTY OF BANDS
BOYS C'MON AND LET THE MUSIC PLAY
WELL I'VE SEEN THE KEYS ON MY HANDS AND KNEES
AND FOLKS I JUST GOTTA' SAY
WHO NEEDS MAR-GAR-I-TA-VILLE
WHEN WE GOT PUT- IN- BAY
AND I HOPE I'M HERE JUST A SIPPIN' ON A BEER
WHEN MY HAIR STARTS TURNIN' GREY
WHO NEEDS MAR-GAR-I-TA-VILLE
WHEN WE GOT PUT-IN-BAY
You know.. I once asked "What Islands?" to my parents. To which they replied "get on the boat!"
Passing by CP that day.. just a little ways away from Mean Streak.. and not being able to go to the park.. It was then I was certain they must've found out what I did to the cats, for this was surely my punishment.

If you are on Put-In-Bay in July, don't miss the comedy singers Faust and Lewis. You have to be 3 sheets to the wind to really appreciate them, though. They were down in Key West a few weeks ago, chatting about how they couldn't wait to go back, back to Put-In-Bay.
BTW, wasn't there a pretty bad accident at the winery last year or the year before? I recall a patio that doubled as the roof of a basement caved in with many people on it at the time. Lots of people were hurt. I thought that might have been the end of the line for them.
Sadly Lonz was to close last September anyway, the property had already been sold to the State Of Ohio. I don't think there are firm plans concerning the winery or the old house next door but I believe the property will be developed as a state park.
