Virus Impact on CP

In all honesty I think its been here since November... I had covid-like symptoms but they couldn't figure it out and they claimed it was a viral infection causing my problem... and that was before thanksgiving.

You can think that, but it's not what happened.

My buddy thought he had it too. In February. Got the antibody test last week and he did not have it. I got the worst cold (tested negative for the flu) I've ever had at Christmas, but I don't think I had it then. My father was in the hospital on oxygen for 5 days at the end of February. He may have had it but they never tested him for it. And we all visited him daily yet none of us contracted anything. I would say an actual test while presenting symptoms or an antibody test would be the only way to know for sure.

They've identified "patient zero" and they got it in China around the middle of December. Anyone in the US who thinks they had it last fall doesn't understand how how this all works.

Also, here's an article from The Blade talking about the ride inspector layoffs. While it says they can and will be recalled when it's safe to open the parks, it certainly puts the decision on how and when to open the parks firmly in DeWine's court.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

While I definitely think there will be coasters to ride later this year, I'm not convinced they will be in the state of Ohio

I was completely asymptomatic last June. Pretty sure I was patient zero for Covid-19 in Ohio. I could just tell I had something.

Promoter of fog.

I have a hard time believing a word that comes from China or what China has told the WHO about what went on in their country as it relates to COVID, so while they have “come to the conclusion” that this started in mid-December, we’ll probably never know the truth definitively.

Except there is pretty clear evidence generally agreed upon by experts. That may not be definitive, but it's a lot more weighty than what you or I "believe."

CP Reservations emailed me this morning to advise they'd cancelled our June 12,13,14 Breakers reservation (what would have been Run Ride weekend). Deposit will be refunded in full within 5-7 business days. The Run Ride company is not offering refunds or "hold for 2021" option, instead pushing a virtual race and mailing the swag. I was able to get a refund, however, after a couple of emails back and forth with their reps.

Rep Jim Jordan just said in an interview I just watched that Ohio will be completely open next week. Now I'm from Michigan but I haven't heard that this is the case. Is he lying, mistaken, or is this true?

It's not up to him, it's up to the governor.

It's Jim Jordan. That's all you need to know.

I actually happen to be friends with one of his former wrestlers who can vouch for his integrity.

Promoter of fog.

DeWine has stated that "95%" of Ohio's economy will be opened up in the next week or two.

The trouble is, that last 5% is still an awful lot of stuff not open.

And answered, he's just outright lying. Thank you. I assumed that it was rhetoric not to be believed. I just wondered if Ohians knew something us Michiganders didn't. I understand it is Dewine's call. Just more dangerous double speak from some great leadership, on Jordan's part.

I received an Cedar Point Covid survey this evening through email. Lengthy survey with lots of questions on what you would like to see implemented and what would make you less likely to visit.

I fear the survey is designed to validate the preexisting opinions of those who commissioned the survey. Not much opportunity for “do this, don’t do that” type responses. Also some dumb questions: “is your spending on restaurants higher or lower than last year?” Well, yeah, but not because I want it that way!

I didn't get the survey and I've gotten every survey they sent out the last few years.

Consider this in the context of all of this optimism: Several institutions of higher learning aren't even going to try to open in the fall. Technology companies aren't in a hurry either. The top experts all advise that we slow the **** down because we're going to create a second wave. All of the smartest people might be on to something.

Hope is not a strategy (just ask Obama). It's like going without sunscreen and thinking, by golly, I won't get burned this time if I just will it to be true. I get the pent up frustration and the economic concern, but those don't change the outcomes.

If only there were people who's career it was to study these kinds of deadly pathogens. People who could have warned us about a possible global pandemic. Then maybe world governments could have came up with procedures to combat this and help prevent it from getting out of control. If only.

Maybe we'll get the whole climate change thing right.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm optimistic - regardless of what our elected leaders decide, life will go on and a majority of us will make the most of whatever hand we are dealt. What a great opportunity to take up a new hobby, learn a new skill, exercise more, etc.

As someone said, "When you mix politics and science, you get politics." Sure seems fitting in this case.

It's closing time here at the Mi Casa Quarantini Bar. Final drink toast of the evening and here's to each of you having good health and as much economic/job stability as possible.
